A fun LAMS bike?

If you are tall or bigger than average build, take a look at eithre the DR650 or KLR650. Theres not much between them (DR is slightly better off road, KLR is slightly better on road) but both surprisingly good road bikes that give you the option of adventure type riding as well.

Why has no one even mentioned the Street Triple 660 LAMS?

I know two people that have bought them and are very happy with them and while a bit more expensive than your$11k

I looked at the triple 660 initially but $14k is more than I want to spend.

Will check out KLR as I have no experience with that .

I'm tall ,6'2 and around 84kg so I guess nothing much above average

Yeah, I'd go with the Honda CB500F or a Gladius.
Edit, on second thoughts, the MT-07 seems (and looks) pretty good too. Tough choice...

Edit the second: I've done more thinking on this. I think the MT-07 is best. Great gauges, clock, temp, gear position, and fuel gauge there all the time. Little things those, but surprisingly useful in terms of riding a lot. And I agree it looks the best.
I'd put the CB500F second. It's also got excellent gauges, and it seems like a well put together, fun little bike. The journo's all seem to love it. Eg. The Rideapart review.
And I guess the Gladius would be last, if even still on the list. The V-twin is a nice configuration, a nice engine, but there are too many other good options. It's a bit dated.

To me Honda looks plain a bit , compared to MT07.
Might look and see who has gladius locally in wellington as I never heard of them .

Going to look at Benellie BN600S and see how is it like. Hard to find any reviews on it though.

That's maybe not vastly above the NZ average, particularly for younger males IIRC, but I'll venture it is quite a bit taller than an average rider across all global markets.

Hello all !
This is my first post here . I'm glad to see the biking community is so friendly and helping !!

I'm at my 30s and just got my learners to be able to ride and own a "fun" bike purely for joy ride and weekend short trips.

My knowledge of bikes are limited but done some research and though Yamaha MT07 could be a good option.

I came up with more reasons why I'm liking the MT-07 more and more.
-That deep purple colour you can get it (deep armour) in looks fantastic IMO!
-Brilliant functional and stylie gauges, as previously mentioned.
-Apparently very good brakes, better than the others in its class.
-It has proper sportbike wheel and tyre sizes, unlike all the others in its class. I mean 120/70-17 and 180/55-17 whereas most in it's class have 160's on the rear.
-With the addition of a simple affordable slip-on can swap, it sounds great (Factory exhaust is a bit tinny sounding).
-The looks. Really growing on me, the more I see it. It's a pretty darn good looking bike. I saw one in the flesh at Red Baron, and it looks even better IRL.
-They claim most torque and best fuel economy in it's class.
-Really light (179Kg wet), so nimble to throw around in traffic.
-The crossplane crank design makes it rev a bit like a V-twin without actually being one.
-Made in Japan...

This is a dude in Ozzy riding the LAMS version, same as ours, for the first time. It has a slip-on Akrapovic muffler and sounds amazing. But please don't be like him: Always wear gloves!


Not intending to sound like a Yamaha salesman, but I kind of wish I'd test ridden one of these when I was bike shopping, but I was dead set on not getting a LAMS bike, since I have my full. I reckon it'd be a much better commuter bike than the one I ended up with. I don't need the speed of a GSX-R600, and the riding position of the MT-07 looks great by comparison.

Well mate you could be a nice sales person haha. For the reasons you mentioned I had my eye on the MT07 as well.

Hoping the Upper Hutt dealer let me ride that and other two I had in my mind.
