New bike purchasing confused totally

Hi guys
excited to join kiwibiker!!!!
I currently ride a CBR 250(2013) and I currently commute daily to a distance of 50 kms. Thinking of upgrading to a bigger and a more powerful bike. I do have a class 6 full license, just confused on what type of bike to buy. My budget is approximately 10 grand . Listing a few bikes that I fancy on purchasing
1. Harley Davidson street 500
2. suzuki hayabusa
3. KTM 690 duke.
4. yamaha R6
I would also like to use the bike for longer trips . Just want some help in choosing the right one.thanks

All of those bikes you've listed are all very different from each other.

Best thing to do is to go and test ride each of them.

I'd say to concentrate on what type of bike you want first, and then ride at least a two or three of that type before making a decision.

If you think the crew on KB will clear up your confusion...good luck with that!

You might be better off to narrow down your choice of bike based on primary intended use. For commuting you won't enjoy a big grunty bike to do the lane split tango on Aucklands' motorways

My Busa hardly ever gets used to do the commuting run, but anything that involves out of town runs, yep it's the preferred mode of transport

Also give some thought to how you want to ride your bike. Do you want to take it touring? Are fuel economy and range an issue? Do you want to be able to carry a pillion safely and with some comfort for them? Do you want to be able to do your own servicing? Is it going to live in a garage or under a cover outside? Do you want to be able to pick it up yourself when it falls over? Etc.

Buy the bike that makes you go WOW. You have (hopefully) many years and many bike purchases left to be sensible. Hitchers advice is very good , but it's amazing what you'll put up with if the bike makes you grin every time you swing a leg over.

Duke or R6 hands down. Given the commuter need I'd probably gun for the Duke.

1 - Learner bike, gutless. If you want a smaller Harley go for an 883 over that 33hp 500 I reckon.
2 - Expensive to run and large for a commuter considering 50k is a short distance.
3 - Do it!
4 - Some people whinge about sport bike ergonomics for anything other than a bike to drop the hammer on, otherwise, do it!

I'd start with the UJM -- universal Japanese motorcycle range. This includes Suzuki Bandits, Honda Hornets and CB1300s, Yamaha XRJs, and various older Kawasakis. Heaps of customisable parts and accessories available. Reliable as a reliable thing, versatile and dependable. Move on from one of those once your riding tastes and styles become more refined.

That's almost the sort of advice one would expect for going out on a Saturday night "hunt" at the club...or maybe it's just my dirty mind seeing the similarities
