This is the key point. People set their asking price based on other people's asking prices, which has little relationship to actual sale price. Just watch how many of these things stay listed week after week after month. Personally I HATE selling and dealing with TM idiots, so I list my vehicles etc at a fair price with a goal to sell within 2 weeks. Beats sitting around for weeks on end only to get the same price in the end anyway.

To Suzuki's credit, although the technology on a DR hasn't changed for the last 10 years, neither has the base price.

Too true!... I've been looking for a KLR650, several 2008 models listed for $6K, with 10-20K KM... I ended up buying a brand new one because $6k is too high and I couldn't be arsed haggling someone who thinks its worth $6K because "everyone else is asking $6K".

New motor with 2 year warantee, happy!

The loss on my last 2.5year old bike with 6k was 1.5 DR650's. Still a 3 year old low/mid km bike that's good for commute/ fun and adventure is always likely worth 4k plus because of what else the similar coin can buy that's not a lot older.

When you think about it 9k new is good value compared to a lot of other bikes.

DR650, $8995 + orc ($500ish). As an ex Suzuki salesman I know the margins and they are slim. If you find a dealer willing to gift you the orc you're doing well. My dr is an 09 model which i know from new. Loaded with farkles and 11km when i bought it at $6k. Just be patient, the deals will arise.

And worth 6K the moment you wheeled it out the door ;p

I did the same thing but more because piece of mind knowing its been looked after from day one, I'm pretty fastidious with overly frequent oil and filter changes etc.
I don't hold manufacturer warranties in very high regard have had several issues in past claiming stuff on new bikes. And technically you cant modify during that period and have to get it serviced by them etc....
What gets me is the price some of the older superbikes are going for. And I'm talking the slightly overweight ones just before the fireblade era... ironically my SRAd 750 is worth less lol
