Just get an MX bike, if you are just trail riding and the odd cross country event it will be fine, unless you ride like a young 17 year old MX racer with the throttle pinned everywhere.
There are good second hand 4stroke MX bikes around, a lot cheaper than enduro type bikes, if they are ex race bikes most have been thrashed on the track but still have a good service history. its the trail ridden ones you got to watch.
Why would you ride that long and that gnarly stuff if you don't have to, Its what we do, we love it.

I have a 2012 injected WR450, using a YZ power tuner you can change the maps (make it a nana bike or a monster on steroids) WR's are geared with a wide range gearbox, 1st is low so standard trail gearing is fine. MX bikes use a close ratio gearbox with a tall 1st gear ( not great in the the tight stuff) These day's the WR engine is it's own and not related to the YZ, they run heavier cranks and bigger bearings and should last longer than MX engines although Yamaha recommends a freshen up @ 100 hrs, many people don't bother I'm told. Its a fantastic bike in every way, but can feel a bit heavy in the tight stuff.
I also have a 2014 Beta RR300 2T, it's super light @ 102 kg and when put against the WR in a sprint across a paddock it can hold it's own, it's got plenty of power and so much fun to ride and very easy in the tight stuff ( it can be ridden nice and quietly if you want) it's not scary at all. Lots of different 300 2T's to pick from Beta, Sherco, KTM, GasGas,husqvarna,Husaberg etc. I was told to change piston @ 100hr's. Still will be heaps cheaper than a 4T to freshen up.
If you want to race get an MX bike. Or get a trail, enduro bike for everything else. I'm 58 and love trail riding. Good luck and enjoy
My 2 cents

Oh yeah electric start on enduro, trail bikes is bloody awesome, mine both have kickstart as well but never used

...the bucket I raced...y'know the one...the CG commuter with the Loncin motor...that would look good on you...with a knobbly rear...maybe even one on the front...![]()
What's your budget ? a good 2nd hand 450 WR/RMX/CRFX 5=8g 2012 up .
The Enduros do weigh a bit more but that's because of E start , bigger exhaust, battery etc. They also use stainless valves were as the MX use Titanium, service intervals are longer.
A DR400E great fun/trail bike . bullet proof but dated when compared to a modern Enduro.
2 strokes either a 250/300 Husky, GasGas, Beta, Yamaha, TM, KTM easy to ride , FUN, low maintenance costs , light weight etc.
EG my Brother just bought a 07 Husky 250WR $3.7g included spares/parts his 1st MX/Trail bike in 25 yrs and loves it , he got the bug back riding my old KTM at VMX meets, he stuck to his budget and asked me for advice on the Husky .
Try a 2 smoke you might like them.
I done it now.
I got a wr and no im not going to gear it downActually dosent really need it as it has a reasonably low first anyway(compared to the crf) so no vids for you although the front wheel is not going to wear very fast
.
Anyone out there with old gear for a fat bugger they don't need?.
winding up stucky since ages ago
