Some of the things I've been told, regarding the training *motorcycle instructors* give to riders...is so funny it's actually sad. And dangerous.

That's because they have very strict entry criteria to prevent individual thinking from entering the ranks. Hence you have to be a rugby nut, team sport player etc to get in these days or the appropritte ethinic minority.
Just imagine if they individual thinkers in the force and come biefing time someone says 'Bullshit, I'm not enforcing this 4k limit..." or etc etc etc....

Just as I finish my job and move on, a big thanks to you all who have helped me realise that you guys know my job better than I do.
Yeah man, I was surprised by the sandy vagina fest your friendly safety warning post got, although I don't know why you'd expect or want a pat on the back from this lot
What's the world come to when you're considered a interfering wanker for casually letting someone know that their own and their daughters skin is actually better to have than not, but as you say, others clearly know better, and you should have obviously just bashed his indicator in and written him up for it

So Rastus. Do you get to do a lap of honour of the city to sign off?

Might catch up with you at a training course some time. I did the advanced course about three years ago and it's worth repeating.

If only that were necessary. I stand out in the open and catch those who can't see beyond the end of their bonnet. But you never hear about those ones, do ya.

Actually I usually, but not always, drive just under the limit myself. There are other things I like to spend my money on. But it makes me laugh when people are over the limit and there is a cop on the side of the road, clearly visible for some distance, and they go roaring along, only to slam the brakes on at the last minute.
And these are some of the people I have to share the road with, and that in itself is enough to make me pay more attention to who is around me when out and about.
Between lumsden and gore once there was a big blue drum that had fallen off a trailer or truck on one of the straights, It was sitting in the middle of the lane so I stopped to move it, and there was a lady coming towards it rather quickly while I was parking the truck, I think she must have been 60-70 mtrs from it before she locked all the wheels up and slid straight into it. Good job it was empty.
That kind of thing is enough for me keep my speed down, knowing the type of idiots out there sharing the road with me.

    Interesting.

    I didn't realize there's a night school version.

I'm doing an 8 day block course to get certified. As well as jumping through a few more hops like medical exams, eye exams, theory tests, practical assessments blah blah blah.

Funny thing though. I thought I was going to become a Class 6 I endorsement holder. But when you get an I endorsement, it covers all classes you hold. So, in order to get the I endorsement, you have to pass all the theory tests i.e. Classes 1,2,3,4,5 & 6. It's be a real crash course in the Classes 2 to 5, I can tell you.

I had an A, B and F when I was a testing officer with the old MoT, and the classes changed while I was in this job. It happened when we got the photo ID licences. I was converted automatically to a Class 1, 2, 4 and 6. So I've had truck licences since 1989 without having driven trucks more than half a dozen times since.

Getting a truck licence is now a far more complicated process, so I'm pleased I hung onto my old one.

Learning all the technical issues in the HMV trade has been an eye opener. I knew a bit due to my current role, but not a lot of the technicalities. I still wonder why a driver needs to know what the maximum forward distance of a rigid vehicle is. Like, unless he's building a truck, what does that tell him?

    Anyway, it's a real learner.

Sometimes on a timber or steel delivery truck you get a long beam to carry which sits on your headboard and can extend over the front of the cab.
