I don't know why a biker would sit on a cars bumper. Taking into account reaction time and the fact that cars can out brake bikes.

Many bikes run into the back of cars. Careless riders I reacon. I'd sit outside the cars line or a safe distance back.

Garry --I agree entirely with your point -Facts do disagree with ya re braking distances on MODERN bikes.
MOST cars on the rad today still use the same single piston calipers from the 1960's and a lot are on 155-185 tyres. -Yea I know about abs etc -but percentage wise the ABS equipt cars are still small
I cant think of many bikes today useing the same plastic tyres and stainless disked single piston brakes we had back then.
With reasonable rubber and any 90's on sports or sports /tourer Ill likely outbrake most sedans/vans/trucks on the road today

And when you add to the equation that most of us are awake and have the brake lever covered all the time, I'd say that our reaction speed is a few hours faster.
Just don't try to outbrake the new Chrysler Crossfire SR/T, apparently it stops from 100 km/h faster than ANY car tested in NZ, 29. something metres.
    Speed doesn't kill people.
    Stupidity kills people.

Yeah, I'm with you on this Garry. I don't reckon there's one law for bikes and another for cars, in terms of following too close. I get really pissed off when someone in a car tailgates me when I'm in a car, I don't see what difference it makes if you're on a bike. You should keep a reasonable distance.

No disrespect to anyone, but I honestly think that the fact that a certain bike or car has got better brakes than another bike or car is irrelevant. It can't be a subjective thing, up to the opinion of the rider/driver (I've got better brakes than you so so I can follow THIS close??? really?...how can that possibly work..in the real world??)

Bikers need to treat other road users with the same courtesy they expect to receive. Can't have it both ways.

Well in a panic brake situation a biker will most likely do one of two things.
1/ Do a stoppie and hit the car followed closely by the bike
2/ Lock up the front and drop the bike.
Either way they're its not looking good.

My car is an old 1990 Celica. On a dry road it pulls up dam hard and I don't think its really limited by the braking system as I could lock the wheels if I wanted.

Bikes have very little rubber in contact with the road. A car will out corner and outbrake a bike in most situations.

    Out brake? Maybe.
Out corner?, if its F1 car then yea, but on average we have it all over cars on corners, try going around a 50k corner at 90-100 on a bike... No prob., now do it in a car, unless you have got the latest and greatest sports model, or are a drift freak, it will be a bit sphincter clenching!
We all have our little obsessions...
