CBTA 12month wait for full. You should get some pointers about riding when you do this. Both these things supposed to be incentives
Std path 18 month. No help

I got a lifetime licence once on destruction proof paper. Few years later I had to pay to get a photo ID licence that lasted 10years max. I think a wheetbix license would be worth more than the lifetime licence I once had.

    I. like many others on here, am old enough to remember the book we got in the olden days... mine was issued by the local borough council traffic department after being tested by the chief traffic officer of the borough...

Maintain it would be cheaper to go to Cook Islands and get licence and holiday then come back and save money buying a bike too big to be lams approved. Must save at least 2k on the bike side of the deal.

So has your license arrived yet? Interested to find out what u got. Hope you take everyone's advice and learn to ride solo first. Look up "ride for life" training, it's ACC subsidized, only $50 for a full day 8hrs professional training, would be well worth doing... did u buy a bike yet?

Wait and see what comes in the post.

I took my CBTA full pass certificate in early, thinking I could apply early. I got a paper full then a phone call from a manager at NZTA going "yeah - AA fucked up. I've mailed you a replacement restricted and send out the full in a month".

Can you drive in New Zealand?

You can drive in New Zealand if:

you hold a driver licence or driving permit from another country and:
your overseas licence or driver permit is current and valid, and
you've not received a disqualification or suspension in New Zealand, and
you entered New Zealand less than 12 months ago, and
your overseas licence is in English; if it's not, you must have an accurate translation, and
you've not been granted a New Zealand driver licence, and
you have not renewed, requalified or reinstated a New Zealand driver licence since you last entered New Zealand.
    "

You've been granted a New Zealand driver license already.
    No conversion allowed.
Suck it up and do some proper training and CBTA tests. Why you'd want to ride without a legitimately obtained license, I don't know...

That is to DRIVE with your foreign license in NZ, unless you can find exactly where it says you can't convert it...bet you a chocolate fush you can't...

How is going and passing a test for your 6F not legitimately obtaining a license...?

I work for NZTA. When converting an overseas licence to a NZ class 6 licence from a non-exempt country (such as Rarotonga) A class 6 theory test and a class 6 full driving test is required to complete the application. After completing the theory test you will be awarded with a 6L until the driving test is passed.

As for driving in NZ on an overseas licence, you can, but only if you have no NZ driver licence.

    Just FYI
