    That's right, forgotten about that part... I think they changed it to either two years or five years before we got the "lifetime licences"...

    Also, having to re-licence the car each year and it was all done in June - IIRC - until the current system of licencing began... Used to be queues at the local Post Office [remember those places?] to re-licence the car and at the local driver licence issuing authority which for us was the local borough council offices...

    Ah, the good old days...

    Yes. I worked the motor registration counter on a few of those Junes and was the supervisor for the last one I did. We used to dread the last day of June at we'd do about 20% of the months regos on that day.
    What about the old 'Carless Days' stickers?. People used to apply for exemptions to their chosen day to go without. Best excuse I received was from an Asian woman who had nominated Saturday as her carless day but then applied for an exemption to it because "I need go horse races on Saturday"
