When life throws you a curve ... Lean into it ...
This is primarily to appease the latte louts in the fringes of the city, who are "peeved" about commuters parking in their areas and walking the last bit to their work, rather than paying to be arse-raped by wilson's parking scam or the council's alternative parking and arse-raping scheme.
It's already backfired on the rezidentia, as they will have to purchase a parking permit (price not set yet, but want to guess how much?) to park in their own street. I can see the next round of whining rezitentia complaining about their parking permits going missing / being counterfeited, etc.

Won't affect motorcycle riders, heaps of free parking for bikes in the CBD and surrounding.
Ciao Marco
LOL Aucklanders. Why would anyone voluntarily live in that shit heap?
I see it's only at consultation stage.
So in the meantime, yep, there's quite a lot of free motorbike parking there:https://at.govt.nz/driving-parking/motorcycles/

Motorcycle parking
On-street parking set aside for exclusive
use of motorcycles or motorised
scooters.
•
Motorcycle parking will sometimes be provided in on-
street space that is not suitable for regular car parking.
•
Long-stay motorcycle parking in the CBD should be
encouraged in off-street parking buildings.
•
On-street motorcycle parking may be time restricted or
priced to prioritise short-term parking.
•
Pricing may be introduced to manage high demand. The
price to park in on-street motorcycle parking spaces will
be less than for a car in recognition of the lower impact
on congestion and kerbside space.
•
Motorcycles are not allowed to park on the footpath.

Dedicated motorcycle parking is provided in all AT car
parking buildings
.
AT will look to continue to provide
these facilities
.
However, charging will be considered
if demand increases to the point that car parking is
being removed
.
Once again.
We need to decentralise business.
Until we do we are trying to pave our way out of a problem that can only be solved by smarter thinking.
With the advent of the internet there is no longer valid reasons for battery farming humans in concrete cages.
Stupid phone / Tapatalk, apologies in advance.
