I got "SCREAMED AT" in front of a dozen or more customers by a servo cashier in ChCh, for walking in to pay for my petrol with my helmet still on during a very wet & cold winter day (while clearly holding cash in my hand to pay for said petrol), told me to "REMOVE MY HELMET OR LEAVE IMMEDIATELY!"...ummm OK!!...so I turned and walked back out to the bike to leave!

...the manager ended up running out to the forecourt to appologise and take the 20 bucks for my petrol (As i said to him...If I was gonna rob ya...I don't think I'd be parking & filling up right under your forecourt camera's...and then "try" to pay for it?)

(I do understand there fear etc...but FFS!, its not THAT hard to spot a paying customer with a helmet on lol)

In some parts servos run an elective "open the door" policy after hours. Imagine my surprise when a novice attendant refused to open the door in the early hours for four plain clothes detectives in a mufti car...so common sense is a rare skill for some servo jockeys

Its time we as bikers exposed this BS for what it is. The only bankrobbers who wait quietly in line are the non disguised fools. Yet I bet they daren't say squat to feral trash walking in with hoosdies on......

I walked into my local branch just after selling my Stag with $12g in hand. I was in full leathers and taking my helmet off as I queued. The bloke at the counter laughed and went "where have you just held up?"

But yeah - never take my helmet off. I guess having the rule gives them easy grounds to lock the door when 5 guys in full leathers roll up at 3am and he is on his own and scared shitless.

When they write to the Herald saying "we only wanted a Mars bar" they can point to their rule

It's sure a great way of getting your own back, writing a ticket out.

Oddly, I have an almost different view. If some tosser asked me to take my helmet off, I think I'd take it off, and be happy in the knowledge that I allowed a rtosser to out himself.

Just sayin. I'm not one to take offence easliy.

But isn't that what you're sort of doing in your new role anyway?

Looking forward to being asked to remove the lid in a servo sometime over winter. If they don't like the helmet, i'm sure they'll just hate me standing there in my balaclava. To be fair, I've only been asked to remove my helmet in a servo once in the last 9 years.
