In a former life, I was a cyclist - I've been roaming London and the Eastern counties since a young age.

I've never once had an accident with a car - why? I ride assuming I can't be seen.

Cycling in Auckland, you have to wonder why there aren't more deaths. The cyclists are just plain idiots. They've never looked over their shoulders in their lives.

Re not sticking left, sometimes I won't. On a blind, narrow left hand bend, sticking to the white line can be suicide as it entices some cage driver to believe they can fit past, only to discover they can't and veer left, squeezing me. So I'll move out a bit and own my lane.

As soon as I can let people down though, I always do.

This guy is just a twat though - I seriously doubt he was getting a ticket until his "Fuck Off" greeting.

This guy is typical of the lycra clad fuckwits on the roads, pay no attention to road rules, belive they have as much right to the road as the rest of the traffic and abuses anyone that challenges this sense of entitlement.

...a friend of mine has represented NZ on a couple of occasions...she does some immense miles and alone...she is of the opinion that a lot of the groups of blokes out riding on our sections of hills and valleys are brain dead and asking for trouble...she is almost of perfect physical form and I have seen cars following her that could easily slip past but would rather follow...she found it so disconcerting, that she gave up training on the roads...

Once stuff.co.nz have got bored, he might learn how to say "good afternoon officer, what, may I ask, appears to be the problem?"

    Won't change his riding!

Anyone notice that the cyclist's name is Alex Mann, and the by-line of the article writer is Brittany Mann? Coincidence, much ?

This is an entirely unsubstantiated opinion, but clearly there is some interaction between Lycra and intellectual function. I should apply for a grant to investigate. The working hypothesis: the more Lycra, the less cortical function...

Read right to the bottom of the article - there's a disclaimer.
