Parking in Wellington?

Where can I park my bike in Wellington? I've seen a few bike spots at Courtenay and Taranaki, near the Embassy on Kent Terrace, and near Motorad on Vivian, but they're often fully occupied. Can I take a pay and display spot in a pinch? (If so, how do you display a receipt securely?)

Wonder why 2 bikes max in meter park. Must be a revenue thing.
Pay and display thing is obvious. Meter men can barely find a rego sticker. Display ticket under passenger strap be very difficult indeed.

I wonder if there's also an element of one rider putting money in a meter and suddenly everyone else in the area diving onto the "free park". Original rider might get pissed off having paid then getting his or her bike covered in other peoples scooters.

This. Parked my bike in the back row of a deep MB park and came back to find a scooter guy trying to squeeze in. It was so close he stopped when he saw me waited for me to leave. All I need is a scooter scrape to add the finishing touch to my bike.
The guy that parks so close you cant stand your bike up off the stand is always a good one. Im just in the avoid centre city parks stage of my new bike and ill get a town bike or keep the café racer and get a plate for it.
