    why???

the other day, as i was riding down from TGA to wellington, i suddenly saw (out of the corner of my eye) rocks falling off the cliff next to me, and in the mirror, bolders hitting the road. this got me thinking...

of all the "interesting" things that had happened to me and i had seen on the road AS i was riding.....

as i looked in the rear-vission mirror, watching the bolders fall.... i felt nothing, no releif that i was seconds away from being hit by the rocks, or that i could have come around said corner tooo fast and hit the rocks on the road ...
    i just keeped on riding...

    why?

it was rain... HARD!... (and if you were on the last welly ride you may have noticed that my front tyre was in need of replacing BEFORE i left for TGA!!)
and why did i take the long way round ( route 54) to get back to wellington???

    why?

and the time i was on my way to greymouth... a hillside had fallen across the road, the diggers were there to remove the mud, the only vehicals allowed to pass were B trains and busses...

i went through..( even though the mud was up to the axcels (sp??)on my CX500..

    why?

and the time i was just about to over take a stock truck on my way to dunedin , when a lotus pulled out of the oncoming cars and managed to pass UNDER my handle bars and not hit me....i carried on..

    why?

and the time i thought my wife was having fun and leaning the other way around corners... just to find out that my front tyre was flat.. i carried on ( after fixing it!!)

    why?

the time i went tooooo fast around a corner on the takaka hill...(long funny story there!).. i carried on...

    why?

there have been many ...MANY times that should have made me think
why the F###K am i riding for...

    why ??

    i'll tell you why.

    FREEDOME..
    ENJOYMENT..

hell i know ,i am not the best rider around.
but i love the time on the bike.. the trip back down to wellington the other day, was in the rain and the cold AND i was leaving mudboy behind!
but it was just me and the bike, it seamed i could do no wrong... no cops to hinder me, no dick heads to get in my way ( not saying that i didn't piss off any cage drivers...hahaha)

i actully wished that the trip was longer!!!!!!!!
i had a deflated feeling as i pulled into the garage here in welly.. i knew tea was on the table waiting for me, but i have at least half a tank of gass .....

i was out to prove nothing to anyone!... i must admit life could have ended that day and i would have had no regreats.....
i have perposefully NOT started the bike since then as i know that the dream would have burst.... the dream would have gone,

i want it to just fade away.............

    jim beam..... mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Obvious, two words. Addiction and love.

I doubt that you would be the only one not to stop riding. Once you have done it, and experienced it, there is no going back, and no substitute.

We've got by-laws for people like you, and as soon as I get the Council organised, you're outta here. History. Gone-burger.

    I hope you like Palmy.

Stop friggin' reminding me that if I chose to, I could keep going.
