i run mine with no expansion bottle.runs fine.pressures not an issue.also run it with no thermostat,as they do run hot.but so do all v's.i'd suggestremoving thermostat, and blanking hose off.i run mine like that ,and havent had a problem .before that rear cylinder used to run too hot,and bike always
seized on rear cylinder.nsr's are rare, but if you can.get hold of some mc18 barrels and heads, and chambers.the difference they make is unbeliveble.the engine runs cooler ,bigger port size, better flow and more power....

tlr is running with blue flame cans, tre unit, modded air box,and yoshi box ecu re writer

Man, 4th post and you're already pumpin' the emoticons. No pun intended.

If I can just get this thing going I'll be stoked for now, and when it blows up I think I'll put in a 400-600cc 4-stroke. Another member here has an NSR with an XR600 motor in it, that sounds bloody brilliant to me.

But yeah, I've blanked the excess pipe bit, think that's all I'll dare with for now, and got all the fluids in the bike only for it not to fire. It has spark, fuel is reaching the carbs but not appearing in the carbs, not sure if it's a blockage or a lack of compression. It seems to kick over way too easy, at least compared to my FXR 150 that is. Should NSR's be quite a bastard to kick over or are they meant to be easy?

Nah all 2-strokes are pretty easy to kick over. Have you had the carbs off and cleaned them out? If it has been sitting for a while then it could be a problem to start, 2 strokes are like that.

A guy down here I know has a race bike, nsr250 frame (MC18 i think) with xr650 engine in it, fully kitted out. Goes like a cut cat, just a real bitch to start. Stay well away from him when he want's volunteers to start it lol.

I've had the carbs off but havent cleaned them, that might be next. I may have emptied the floats too, turn some screws at the base of the carbs while fiddling and had a degree of fuel pour onto the floor. Imagine I gotta kick till I've filled them up again.

    Crap.

    Or, out they come.
