    LED flasher

    Hey all,

I bought some cheapo LED indicators for my GN250 project but they turn on solid, don't flash. I guess this is because they don't draw enough current to flick the bimetal strip in the relay unit. I know you can get LED solid state flasher units , but from what I have seen, they are all 3-pin. The original GN relay is 2-pin. Any serious wisdom or advice would be really good.

    Thanks

Can't recal how the GN's indicators are wired, but you could get a three wire and just figure out what the third has to go to, it's probably ground...

Super cheep normally has them and a three pin will work in the same way. Tridon HD12 or so rings a bell?

    you'd be looking for a tridon hd12,

2 pin will go into a 3 pin socket (tis the left hand pin missing iirc) but obviously not the other way. Anyway the hd is 2 pin. So game on.

I got a LED relay for my Z1000. From memory it was a like for like replacement. But also came with a 20cm ground wire. I just grounded it to a nearby bolt.

so when one bulb is out do these relays flash at a faster rate than normal? that is the requirement for nz roads, if it doesn't it's not legal.

Don't get caught up on that.

I know it says that on paper but how many times have you had a WOF and they check if it flashes faster once they remove a bulb?

what happens if you own a vehicle that has the flash rate set through the ecu not through a relay?

Flash rates for electronic flashers (whether a separate unit or set by the ECU) are independent of number of working bulbs. Means you can't tell if on bulb's blown, of course.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....
