I realise they are not great commuters but I really would like one and I will be commuting in Auckland and don't know if they will handle the experience.
Such has cooling problems, very excessive fuel consumption, excessive servicing etc...

They are a fucking steaming pile of shit unless you are angry & have no regard for the law & rape it's arse, then they are completely awesome. Definitely the worst bike you could ever want to go for quiet tootle into town on.
Buy an old F650gs if you want to commute.
I swapped my RSVR out for an R1200gs & am much happier.

All things considered you can commute, or tour, or stunt, or off-road pretty much anything. The bike will perform better though, when used close to the purpose the designer intended.

There was another KBer wondered if the MV Brutale 1000 might make a good commuter. I'm sure you could use it as such but it wouldn't be my first choice. Nor would that Aprilia, as cool as they are. A Tuono might be more comfortable but a young enough rider might be more concerned about looks than comfort.

I commute on a Hayabusa - everyone said it would be too big and heavy to filter on, everyone was wrong.

If you want an RSVR, do eeeet, and if it doesn't suit you just sell it and grab something else. Win win

I think pritchs comment above applies perfectly here

A Hayabusa would be a dream commuter compared to an RSVR.
Having said that, im sure Ducati probably make a far worse bike than the RSVR, but the owners are either too stupid to realise it or too proud to admit it.

    Thanks for the input guys.

I test rode the RSVR then tested a 2011 Triumph Sprint 1050GT went home to contemplate and the bastards sold the RSVR. The 1050Gt is the more practical buy the erection the RSVR gave me is hard to beat.

    So looking for another RSVR

Try some lane splitting & carpark manouvers on the RSVR, it should be a hoot.

It's just possible that the Ducati owners are feeling that their purchase decision was justified after watching the Ducati just romp past the Honda and the Yamaha on the straight at Phillip Island last weekend. They can probably maintain that bubble until next weekend at Sepang when normal service will likely resume.

Hopefully Ducati can design a bike for next year that will actually go around corners.

If the RSVR is the bike that gives you the joy of riding - then get that bike.

    Plus 1.
Also if it sucks that badly to commute on it gives you an argument for an adventure bike.
Lower running costs will pay for itself within 2 years. Etc.
Much easier to get past the bank manager if you already have your dream bike. Bit harder arguing the other way.

My bike is so bad in town idd consider the bus a more comfortable option and take the risk idd end up sitting beside a smelly person.

    It looks nice though.

at 1 time in my life i commuted on a 900 ss ducati. It was the only bike i owned that i could not complete a u turn in many wellington streets. It had a dodgy Battery( from new) and it was geared to the moon. It was still 100 times better than the bus or a car.
