Finally got away for a ride!

Wifey had a First Aid course this weekend so as I was feeling a bit better I rang my sister in Morrinsville to see if she'd like a visitor. Hadn't been out on the bike for weeks and it was gathering too much dust in the garage!

Gassed up and checked the tyres, (they were both down 4psi, not bad for about two months sitting around!), and headed off Southwards.

Was interested to check on the fuel economy so rode straight there at a reasonable clip not really trying for economy, but just to get there. Used full throttle for overtaking and arrived without seeing the fuel light blink.

There was a market day on so wandered around and saw some interesting cars, spotted a couple and their daughter in bike gear, but didn't catch up to them to see if they were KB'rs or not.

Sunday morning after watching the AB's get taught a lesson in defence, (still reckon we wuz robbed due to the inappropriate sending off and the missed forward pass!), headed off to Te Awamutu to visit my brother. Forgot to fill up in Morrinsville, so thought I'd just get some gas on the way. However the only gas station on the way was closed! Checked the trip meter and figured I should make Te Awamutu if I was easy on the throttle. Fuel light started blinking about Ohaupo, and when I gassed up in Te A it took 10.5lt so still had 4.5lt left after 223km. Not bad considering how I was riding.

Left a bit late for home, (those cheese muffins Jos made took a bit longer, but boy they wuz NICE!). So trying to balance fuel consumption and speed to get home as quick as possible (without really risking a ticket...) I sped, (I mean "motored"), off up the West side of Hamilton. Rejoined SH1 at Ngaruawahia and split the traffic all the way North. Northern M/way saw a pretty HP car join the fray, so we all had to behave ourselves and follow him until he turned off at Silverdale, at which point the fuel light was flashing again at 185km - musta been a bit harder on the throttle...

Heard there was a bit of a blitz on 16, may be why I only saw two cops on my trip?

Got Sis to take a couple of pics before I left, don't you hate the way the armour makes you look fatter...? Took a pic of myself in the mirror for those who don't know what I look like, too.

Cool Ed, great to see you are back in the saddle:-) Sounds like a bloody good trip.. darn good mileage also..hell at 223kms im close to E=Enough :-( I have also had similar experiences, ride one way and get 250km /tank, ride back and get 190/tank.. mind u it was getting a little more throttle work :-) but I seem to average 16-18 kms per litre..

Yeah, was great to finally be well enough to ride! Worked out at a tad more than 21km/l or just on 60mpg in the old money! Not bad considering the pace.

And yes, it was "getting a little more throttle-work" on the way home...

We lived there from '90-'99 before shifting up here. I worked as an accounts clerk before a stint with a Hamilton insurance brokerage then started my own business which I ran until getting crook in '97.

Nice little town, handy to everywhere. My sister keeps trying to sell us a house so we can move back there, but Orewa is where it's at for us at the mo. Kids, grandson and work, etc.

Eldest daughter and her husband have shouted us a weekend at some resort in Pauanui for our 30th this month. Got family in Whitianga. I suggested we go on the bike, but may have to get the Missus another helmet first. Great roads for a bike, but of course everyone here knows that...

Thanks Mack! Specialist may be on to something, got cleared of a brain tumour with the MRI, so happy 'bout that. Just gotta have a couple more tests/scans and we may be able to sort things out.

Hope to be much better now that Summer's on the way and get out more!
