15/45 gearing will be fine. Better suited for tarmac use and gravel roads, but if you're doing loads of tight trails then go 15/48.
Generally speaking, 1 tooth smaller on front sprocket will equal 3 teeth larger on rear.
So, for mainly road use, go 15/45 or 16/45
Mixture of road/ trails: go 15/48 or 16/48
    Mostly trails/offroad, go 14/48

I wouldn't send them back, cheaper just to buy an extra front sprocket which are cheap enough.

    16/48 = 3.0:1
    14/45 = 3.0:1

no change... diffrent way of skinning the same cat...
16/48 is prob a bit easyer on the chain..............

    I think that you'll find 14/45 = 3.21 (ie, lower gearing than 16/48)

It's 15/45 that is 3.0, the same ratio as 16/48

No offence intended (other than to Kenny!) but your maths (and spelling!) is as good as his spelling!

I do agree that having the biggest (practical) front sprocket is best for chain and sprocket long life.

    you are correct....
The 14/45 was a issue with my BIG finger on the keys & lack of proof reading before posting... should have been 15/45
    which is 3.0:1....
So apart from the finger issue everything I posted still stands as correct...

I have run 15/45 - (which is stock)
    16/45

But my fav is 16/47 which is slightly higher than stock and suits my road riding, and then I can easily switch to 15/47 giving me slightly lower for those trail ride days.

Can,t feel any difference but did have to remove a small amount of material from my case chain saver, due to the larger diameter of the front sprocket.I might add the bike has done 20k on original chain and sprockets....
