    What's with Invercargill?

    Hi folks,
Half way thro my swift whip through the bottom half of the South Island and loving it.
Managed a storming 550 km from Queenstown via Te Anau, Pahia, Invercargill then onwards through The Catlins, lost near Curio Bay and upwards to Dunedin.
    Two points to make:
    1.
Wouldn't recommend the road between Chaslands and Owaka as it has loose stuff all over the road, lucky not to lose it.
    2.
How come none of the bikers I saw out today around Invercargill gave me so much as a nod or a wave today?!

Apologies for any mispellings and misgivings.

    Cheers...

Down there they dont wave, having webbing between there fingers has seen a few blown back off there bikes when attempting to do so,getting airborne is wonderful but watching your bike carry on must cause concern.

I used to live on that road and hardly ever saw it like that... might have been because of ice. There are lots of shady areas there.

Perhaps they did not know you were coming with your strange ways. Do you wave at people when you are walking down the street as well?

I think the non wave back thing started with the staunch HD guys, extended to all HD riders, then onto others-I wave to everyone (cos I'm a friendly guy) and think its amusing when I don't get a wave back.Mind you on the country roads we have up Norf,we all wave to each other when driving tin tops,I guess its a Far North thing.

I usually jump on my bike to go for a ride. If you jump on your bike to go wave at strangers that's all good but don't take it personally if they don't have the same hobby

Whats been your highlight around there so far? I'm thinking about moving that way in the next year so I can spend a bit of time exploring the place.

Hmmmm - possibly not. I tend to vary between a upward nod or sometimes a downward one. I'd imagine the official KB one is probably a screwy incline to the right (or left).

Tell you what I never see anymore is the old right leg wave (kick it out off the peg slightly in a 'wave').

Maybe we should bring that back.

There was a chap around CHCH a few years back that used to pop a greeting wheelie on the road to Akaroa. I've not seen this for some time - give nhe was usualy at open road speed when lifting the front his unique greeting may have ended up messy ....

Why let it get to you so much that you posted a thread? Surely, just enjoy the riding mate, fuck 'em all....
Nice to have some nod or wave BUT....really? who cares, get into the rhythm, ride and switch off, just enjoy the beautiful south...

NOW, when you stop, that is the time to enjoy the locals and bond if you so wish!

Try the upwards nod. I recommend watching the training video (Once Were Warriors).
