    Better work story

    Better work story

I have been using a 2009 BMW R1200RT as my work bike since jacking the blue suit in.

I bought a 2013 model to replace it, as the kms were getting up a bit, and I put the 2009 on TardMe.

After a few weeks, a bloke from up North bought it sight unseen, and arranged to fly down to hop on and ride it back home.

Bloke arrives Sat morning, happy with the bike, pays for it, and off he goes. From Rangiora, heading for the Coromandel.

I went to work, ironically delivering motorcycle courses, and when I finished I found a missed call on my phone from the buyer. It turns out he had gotten 20 minutes up the road from picking the bike up and he binned it. Low side on a corner.

Damage not too bad, apparently, but I cringed. For no particular reason, I felt flat about it for the whole weekend Nothing to do with me, but I felt sad that suich a thing happened to a bike I had cared for for some years.

The better work stories just keep on rolling.

Yes, first time he had ever insured a bike ahead of time, apparently.

Really nice guy, felt bad for him.

Perhaps he should have invested a little more and attended a course?
Glad to hear he was okay but the bike thought to itself... "who the hell is this cowboy on top of me" How dare.....

At least he didn't ask for his money back.
Happened a few times at car yard or bike shop that people came cropper within a month and felt that must be a warrantee issue they weren't up to the task.

A few years ago now but there was a cherry condition thunder ace at a car yard across the road from my exes work.
I already had the hayabusa but who doesn't want a second bike for under 3k?
After lusting after it for a few weeks I wandered over to have a yarn about it.
After a walk around the yard owner offered to call me when legal tyres were on. On my return
I was promptly offered a test ride. So I took the keys and went over to the bike... Turned right around and went back. He seemed confused when I said it was un-warrantable. So I showed him. The whole of one side was stoved in. Clip on so bent it was split foot peg missing etc.

Someone took it for a fifteen minute blat an hour before hand. Returned the keys said nothing about a crash just that he felt the bike was a little off in the handling and left.

It's a strange connection that we form with vehicles we've spent some time with, whether it be private or work ones...always a weird tinge of sadness when they meet their demise before their time

My first thought was along similar lines...as in what's the name of the anti-theft device fitted to your old bike RC?

The anti theft device on my old bike was my wife's scorn.

Anyone who has felt my wife's scorn will think twice about pinching my bike.

You cringed? What about the poor bike? So desperate to stay with you, and in a pool of abject misery, it sent itself down the road in desperation. You, with your cruel heart still didn't take back this downtrodden bike Traded in for a younger model just like that

I'm off to hug my bike. 111k is nothing

I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.

I always laugh when I see 'must go to a good home' in a vehicle advertisement. As far as I am concerned, once I have my money the new owner can set fire to shoot my previous pride and joy.

New model RT was 2014, so I'm guessing the last of the camheads.

On which part of your wife's anatomy is her scorn situated .. ??

If it has anything to do with your bike ... I'm guessing it's on her bum. If so ... I understand your sentiment ...

Cam head. It was first reg in 14, but it was a 13 build.

I was actually looking for one as it fits all the gear I've set my 2009 up with. Top box, radio kit etc. The LC is a stunning bike but it's a real generation shift. Totally different.

Besides, the one I bought was 12 months old with 1030 km on it, and $12k less than a new one.

I normally carry her scorn. I'm sure you know what I mean.
