I remember a mate's experience. He headed up the hill from the Takaka side never going above 3rd gear, not speeding, but having heaps of fun, with aftermarket exhaust.

He gets to the top of the hill to find a couple of officers waiting. They smile and asked if he enjoyed it as they heard him up the entire hill

Takaka Hill is my playground -but be aware that last year a few got tickets for crossing centre white line. Seems someone hid in bushes with camera and was left there so no car parked.

BUT at least its a 100km zone whereas Queen Charlotte is mostly 50km zone.
Stuff everything...I've always got my bike.

Those hills have some strange minerals in them, they blocked radio transmissions into Golden Bay. Some years back there were a series of Civil Defence emergency broadcasts made to the Golden Bay area from Radio Taranaki. The Taranaki announcer expressed surprise that these announcements were being made over his station. The reason was that the Hawera relay of Radio Taranaki was almost due north of Golden Bay and could beam a signal straight down into the area.

As for having 2ZH as the only radio station you could listen to? You'd have lost the will to live.
