    another police question?

Just following on from Juzzer's question , some time ago an idiot in a bmw just about killed me and a mate, he went to court and pleeded guilty to some soft charge and had this licence taken for 6 months and was told to pay us $1000.

Normaly i wouldn't give a shit about $1000, but when he went to court the cops didn't tell us, so were unable to serve him with our own law suit(sp?) and since then no one has been able to track him down to serve him with the papers.

A couple of years down the track my mate and i are still out of pocket for our 2 bikes.

Is there anything the cops can do to make this guy turn up to court for not paying the $1000 fine? then we can finaly serve him with the papers and perhaps actually get the cost of our bikes back?

I have the guys name and address at the time, at home and will post them tonight if anyone thinks they can do anything with them.

    Cheers

You been into the cop shop and told them the story and then asked them to follow up on it?

Go into the cop shop. He was ordered by law to pay and he didn't.

I think it's now a matter for the Justice Dept collections. Check with your local court or the court he was convicted in.

I have worked in the justice system somewhere in my past. The Court, or as it is known now, the collections department (located at the court) is the one you need. It all depends if the $1,000 was a fine, i.e. payable to the government public coffers, or reparation i.e. payable to you. The collections department will help you if it was reparation. If it was a fine they will not provide you any information on if it has been paid or not. Something called the privacy act!
If someone won't leave you alone just ask them to wait in the far que.

Get a credit check from Baycorp and you will find out not only his credit history but also his contact details. I think you can check it on the net with a credit card as payment. After finding out his address, you can then serve him the papers.

Unpaid fines are a Courts matter, (collections department), not a police matter. Unless a warrant to arrest in leiu of unpaid fines is issued by the court, then the cops will find him and lock him up.
