    Recommend a good ride?

Can anyone recommend a good ride from Tauranga to somewhere. No more than 2 days return trip. North, south, west, either way is good. An no, east from Tauranga is no good. ;o)

How about Whakatane, Opotiki, East Cape, Gisborne, Napier, Taupo, Rotorua, home.
Lots of good roads, lots to see.
If you don't mind gravel, go through Waikaremoana, or the Gentle Annie (Napier - Taihape).
The world is your oyster. Get a map and go.

Hi Lou. Last time we were through there was about 30kms of gravel left. That was a couple of years ago though. But mates who've been through there more recently seem to confirm that.

Ride to Rotorua via Kawerau, around Lake Rotoma. Stunning road. Go home the opposite way. A great day trip. Shame about Rotorua...

I'll second that. Just watch out for Mr Plod - there's a lot of restricted areas around some of the lakes and they sometimes sit there. One of our mates got ticketed a while back, he thought he was in a 100k area but it was a 70. The areas keep changing so you have to be aware of the limit. However, lovely lovely road.

From Tauranga take the back road to Rotorua, then to Putaruru, Kihikihi, South to New Plymouth, around the coast road down to Whanganui, up the Paraparas, Taumaranui, Head to Turangi and then up the Western deviation (Lake Taupo), right at the top follow your nose back top the Putaruru/Kihikihi highway, back to Putaruru, Rotorua and then the back road again to Tauranga.

    Thoughts?

600km?? But a real showstopper. Best do this before daylight saving ends...

Around east cape is a good one, approx 8-9hrs with pit stops from Tauranga.
All the others sound good too.

    Actually any ride sounds good.

Motoracer is going to Waihi/Whangamata on Friday 6th, thats a good ride, might go to that myself.
