KTM950 servicing. Can any one provide a general indication of cost?

I've recently treated myself to a KTM950 Adventure.... approx 60K km on it. I took the bike for a WOF & general service at the same shop I bought it from in Christchurch... I was a little taken a back at the price . I'm keen to hear from other KTM950 owners as to a rough idea of price for a service to make sure I was not ripped off.

I asked for a general service but was told it was given a service commensurate with the number of km on it. Other than oil and filter and coolant... no other parts were required.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Having watched a friend resuscitate a drowned 950, I was amazed at the amount of dismantling necessary to get at carbs, etc. Even changing the oil on these things is a lot more than just removing a drain plug. I could understand service costs being large.

or pay somebody $100 an hour to do it for you...

Thought that part of bike ownership means your own servicing at the very least....?

nope, i would rather pay someone to service my bike during the week sometime so i get more riing time at the weekend.Any work i decide to do on the bike is purely voloutary,hot grips -dismantle to give it the clean of a liketime,replace the odd part ...my weekend time is more valuable than my week day time

Hi. I did a complete service on my se last night oil, filter clean and air filter. It took me 3hrs $120 for oil $80 filter. Hope this gives you piece of mined

Yeah, servicing is not cheap, but agree doing it yourself is a great way to get to know your ride. I do my own oil changes etc, Motorex oil is priced like a fine single malt

Haven't delved deep enough to tackle valve clearance check yet - paid around $450 a while back to dealer in Chch for last valve check that did not include oil change. Thoroughbreds take a bit more looking after

From memory 60km service on a 950 is a biggie. Valve check, plugs, throttle body balance etc. Is there more to this story?

Ain't that the truth... It was $36 a litre when I had my 990SM. Then the shop thought Elf might be better for it, and cost more like $40 a litre No, the KTM isn't cheap to maintain, but for grin factor it was well worth it.

However, I do like my BMW with it's mineral oil, wait for a special at SuperCheap and pay $40-45 ish for 4 litres (the way it drinks it especially when adventure riding it's like a constant oil change)

Motorex specifically? The sheer factor of cost for servicing even doing it yourself seems prohibitive in deciding I want one of these....

Seems like a fair price.... considering the k's. I don't think you'd lose to much if you wanted to on sell it

FWIW... I pay a professional to do the services at the recommended intervals, because they know what they're doing, and he's bloody good at it too (factory trained). They also have the tools and software to do the job properly. Also, having the service book stamped/filled out by a professional counts for something It costs a little bit more as I take it to Chch, so that's an overnight trip, or more

The cheap buggers at BMW stopped the main service book slots at 110k. Seriously, that only took 5 years!
