USA touring info?

Mrs C and i are looking to head to the USA later this year for a holiday that will include 2-3 weeks on a rental bike. While we have a rough idea of where we want to go (Pacific NW) and our likely bike provider what we would like to know is what insurances (and providers) others may have used. Who to avoid and who to look at. Just trying to learn from others experiences before we knuckle down and start our research.

Missus and I are going there in May. Looking at same thing - but likely one week rental..from Eaglerider. I cannot speak from actual experience yet - but believe all risks covered by hire "extras" can be adequately covered by your comprehensive travel insurance...so no need to pay big $$$ for extra cover.
I have looked at NZ providers of travel insurance - the USA is highest price..due to risk. Based on 28 days for 2 people..they ranged from $450 to $700 form the main players (CIGNA etc).... I stumbled on WEBJET - who offer this as well - $340. That's where we will be getting our insurance.

I'm happy to recommend Dubbelju (pronounced 'W', after the owner's first name, Wolfgang) Motorcycle Rentals in San Francisco, whom I used for an 8-day tour through California's Sierra Nevada's a few years ago. Easy to get to from the airport (take the train to the city, walk 3 or 4 blocks) really knowledgeable about places to ride, friendly and helpful.

Insurance in the States is always an issue, so if you get decent cover on Travel Insurance (make sure that it covers bikes of the cc you want to rent) it cuts the rental cost a lot. Wolfgang provides a cable lock to help reduce the chance of theft, but I never felt at risk. Park wisely, ride carefully, don't give the cops any lip.

You know me, Kenny - low profile, under the radar, discreet, cautious - there were no roadside interviews on any topic. A couple of lucky escapes, though...

Best thing about USA is 75-80 mph is totally acceptable on most interstate highways. Cops don't bother much if you're "goin with the flow".
Just don't speed in the National Parks, they've got their own special cops. And low speed limits.

Make sure you go through Yosemite and visit Big Sur. Mammoth Lakes area is gorgeous too.
