Bloody idiot. If he'd found a long enough straight he'd have got 250 out of it!

    "Aggravated failing to stop".
    WTF does that mean

(PS, I got a Daytona, and Deano lives in Dinsdale, but I can only wish to be in my twenties again).

That article is totally misleading. Who knows if hes a learner rider he might have 15 years of racing under his belt!

Of course! All top racers know shorts provide better protection than a full leather suit :-)

If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.

A motorcyclist in shorts was clocked at 232km/h while "playing games" with police in Hamilton.

The 152km/h speed over the limit could be one of the highest speeds recorded on New Zealand roads.

And it didn't end well for the 21-year-old from the Tuhikaramea Rd area who was found hiding at his sister's house after fleeing down a one-way street.

The rider, already on a suspended learner licence, was initially clocked travelling at 82km/h in a 50km/h zone as he zoomed past a school on Massey St about 2pm on Thursday, Senior Sergeant Stephen Ambler of Waikato Highway Patrol said.

Later, he was clocked travelling at 147km/h in a 50km/h zone while overtaking a police car, Ambler said.

"The traffic officer initiated lights and sirens, then he was checked at 232km/h on Tuhikaramea Rd."

The rider was heading towards Temple View, Ambler said, travelling at 152km over the posted 80km/h zone.

But the speedster didn't stop there, continuing towards Pirongia on his Triumph Daytona motorcycle.

"He then went back around into the Tuhikaramea area but he was lost a number times and overtook a number of police vehicles from behind."

Ambler said police did not travel at such speeds and abandoned the pursuit after losing sight of the rider at several points.

"It would be re-initiated when he overtook police vehicles from behind. He was playing games with us really."

But police caught up with the rider in the residential area of Dinsdale about 2.30pm where the game ended in a dead end street.

"A member of the public saw him going down a particular road into a dead end street – there was no way out of there and he didn't come out."

Ambler said the rider ran to a house in the street, which turned out to be his sister's home.

"And he was hiding inside while the bike was around the back."

Police arrested the man and impounded the bike.

He was charged with reckless driving, aggravated failing to stop and driving while on a six month suspended licence.

"He'll go back to court and it will be up to the judge to determine how long he will be suspended or disqualified for."

Police had caught people around the 200km/h but not at this speed in an 80km/h zone, Ambler said.

"It is very, very high speeds – it would likely be one of the highest speeds we have checked someone there yet.

"Tuhikaramea Rd – even though it's rural it is residential area – it was very, very dangerous."

He described the rider's actions as "completely reckless", and said he not only endangered himself but other residents and road users.

Ambler said the rider was wearing a helmet but had shorts on, which could have dire consequences if he had crashed.

Waikato road police posted the radar image of the man's speed on Facebook stating, "in shorts, suspended learner licence, trying to outrun police on a very fast machine. He failed. He realises that now. That is all".

The post had attracted more than 100 comments condemning the man's actions.
He was playing silly buggas with the popo ... quite deliberately

Oh, they probably checked his license when they found him cringing in the woodshed. Or he told them his name as they dragged him out of the kindling, and they checked his license status over the radio as his learner license had been suspended.

Still assuming too much. He might have been riding since he was 5. A lot of riders take years before bothering to get their full. Took me 15 years. In saying that not wearing gear at that speed is pretty retarded.

Fridays really bring out the cynic in you now, don't they....

The moral would appear to be, don't try and hole up in a no exit street.
