Prolific light flicker I am, from the mighty Waikato you know, home of the nastiest and funnily enough the best of the old MOT!, did it way back, still do it, amazing how many people actually still recognise it for what it is, a friendly reminder to wave to Mr TO on yer way past, naturally at legal speed. You can quite inadvertently flash a nice TO or these days a Traffic Policeman/wo-man as they approach you, you know.
Every day above ground is a good day!:
The high beam flash lost a lot of effectiveness when it became compulsory to ride with lights on. It still works fine in cars though.
The overhead hand signal is more effective if there's time, a quick slow down signal still works otherwise.
There is a grey blur, and a green blur. I try to stay on the grey one. - Joey Dunlop
[RIGHT]I am one for the raised rotating finger. Given that short wheelbase of bikes and effect of bumps, I wonder if the light flick could be mis represented. I do the finger signal for fellow bikers and flash cars, however cars never acknowledge this. Do a light flash in my car and I receive the wave of appreciation from other drivers........
The good old 'Disco light' finger wave above the helmet works well, and have received/done it around other motorcyclists many times when a traffic cop is in the vicinity. If the motorcyclist doesn't understand, well then that's on them...
For cars I flash my high-beam headlight, and they usually do the same for me.
No tickets in over 14 years, the system (and luck) works![]()
