    Dyslexic Policeman?

Okay, first things first I know I was breaking the law

I was riding through the Raglan back streets with a pillion, gave the throttle a small quick flick as I crossed an intersection, not going over 60, carried on up around a bend to a round about where I turned left onto the main road and went up and over the hill out of town (past bp) this time just cruising at about 50-55. Just as I'm about to get into the 100k zone a cop comes up behind me and pulls me over, says he saw me zip across the intersection and then as he turned onto it lost sight of me (assumes I was speeding), he says he didn't get a lock on my speed but says he his grounds for pulling me over are for that of "speeding" funny thing is, where this took place and where I ended up being pulled over is 500m + away and at 50km/h that's quite a distance to cover, I'm assuming he just heard me and went looking for me.. (did he even see me at all? bike is quite loud)

Anyway so he does a breath test / license check and surprise surprise he gets his reward in the form of a restricted license (carrying a pillion). Not a complete waste of time pulling me over after all.

He asks if the bike is a Lams 600cc, I say yes, cop "is that a vtwin?" No it's a 4cyclinder, cop "well then that can't be Lams approved" it is, it's restricted, I can show you on the ltsa list if you like, cop "Nah nah that's ok"... Carries on filling out ticket for carrying a pillion, cop "actually yea show me" (show him the phone) "oh ok that's alright". Long story short (yes I know boring as aye bro) I skip ahead and ask if I need to organise a ride for my pillion, he says nah it's fine I'm not going to tell you not to ride with your gf, you can take her home, I'm not going to stop you riding with a passenger and I'm not saying not to do it but don't get caught again or keep doing it because it's 35 demerits each time and you'll lose your licence.

Anyway, my question is, the time this took place was 12:40pm, on my ticket it says 11:40am, at that time I was roughly on the other side of town getting an ice cream or possibly getting cash out at the atm, is an hour enough to get out of the ticket on a technicality??

Sorry for the lake of wheelies and supermans, I'll try make it more entertaining next time.

Bike is a Yamaha FZ6R, I'm on my restricted license - that's all the details

All you can do is ask and see what they say.

I wonder if you did get off on a technicality if the cop would be informed of it, and get his hand slapped?
From your story it sounds like he is one of the better cops around. It would be a shame to turn him "anti-bike", especially when you admit you were in the wrong.

Cop can say what he likes. He hasn't backed any of what he said up from the fact he was saying he's not bothered by something while writing a ticket for it Could potentially just be baiting the OP into riding past with his GF again. Cops do use those tactics sadly.

So he cut you a pile of slack & you still want to see if you can get off? What a wanker, suck it up & be thankful he didn't throw the whole book at you. Or is that just my generation.

What would have happened if i had a full license, he chased me down from way further down the road to say "hey it looked like you were speeding marginally as you crossed that empty intersection" and then tells me to carry on, seems like he was reaching for anything he possibly could and assumed i must have been a criminal on a stolen motorbike, warrant for my arrest, unpaid fines and no license... he was close, i was carrying a pillion on a restricted license and it LOOKED like i may have been speeding.. Its ok im not complaining, its $100 and 35 demerits.. but if i can not pay it i can buy one hundred $1 scratchies and that sounds like more fun sidecar bob

Leave it. You did some naughty stuff and didn't feel then full weight of what he could have done. Don't be a smarty-pants.

Just man up & own your deliberate flouting of the law that you got owned for, instead of whining about it on the net & trying to weasel out of it.

    Case closed.

Cop might not be bothered but he's still got a job to do, including enforcing laws he might not agree with. I don't know what the cops around picton are like but the ones i've had to deal with make this guy look like mother teresa...

What would of happened if your bike got nicked and this super vigilant copper pulled the scum over making his get away? Sometimes you just gotta roll with the punches and fight the battles worth fighting. Perhaps this one isn't.

No he isn't. He asking if he can save a hundy bung on a technicality, why would you whine about him doing that?

If you're thinking of getting the girlfriend to cough up $50, see how fast she becomes your ex.
If you aren't thinking that, think about expressing yourself more precisely.
