Make sure you explore every inland road, anything that looks like a track, go up it until you cant go any further. Nobody will give a shit.
See if you can find the Ara Metua & Avana Pass that goes up past the pig stys & through the three river crossings. lots of fun offroading to be had.
Most of the fun is to be had off the ring road & cracking views can be found.
Go Google maps & blow it up huge & you will get some of them, the rest you have to find.

I think i could today, the only real barrier is my family. They are very traumatised by the whole thing, wife was 3rd on the scene, son not long after.
