Question-
If a 2006 model is released in 2005 how can it be a 2006 model?

There was a time when a particular year model was manufactured in that particular year, and with shipping, dealer stocking etc the vehicle would be released part way through the year, and often not till close to the end of the year. However manufacturers wanted to be first on the market with their year model, so they started producing them earlier. eg Production for the 1975 model started in September 1974, and the bike was released in march 1975.

This still wasn't good enough, so manufacturers started building them a lot earlier so as to ensure that the model would be available by January of the year. eg A 1995 model would start production in April 1994 and be released in December 1994.

But now, in order to be first, the 2006 models start production in early 2005, or even as early as late 2004, and are released mid to late 2005. They have come full circle in the production - release cycle, but are just calling the models a year later than they really are.

I'm waiting till I can buy a brand new 2012 model in 2010.

Probably like Day Light Saving except they are Summer Saving. Starting the year early so there is more Summer in the Year . I know it doesn't work that way in the Northern Hemispere. They'd get more winter, so why premote a longer winter if your trying to sale bikes?

Consider yourself fortunate that microsoft doesn't make bikes...windows 2000 came out when? What about Windows 2003? It's a good job that the next release is called Vista....it could have been embarrasing if they'd continued the year theme

Is it just the japs that are getting premature? I remember bringing my 2001 RSVR to NZ in 2002 and they still hadn't had all the 2001 models....but maybe that's the Italian way of doing things.
