yamaha keys made from lock number?

    hi all.
i have just bought a used tank - to find it locked with no key....
i have the lock number - printed by the key slot.
is there any way of having a key made from the number?
    it's a early '80s sr500 tank if that makes a difference...
    anyone able to help?

    k

Go into a lock smith or yamaha dealer and see it they can do you a key. If not, you may need to take the tank in somewhere and have it re-keyed?

Wot he said. I did exactly that for a Yamaha key, I went to Chubbs on Dominion Rd, they checked the number, looked up their book and cut it on the spot. Easy.

    Arrow Yes.

A locksmith can make a key provided that the code is correct. Most of my bike keys have had the code on them. Pays to write the code on your ownership papers should anything ever happen to the key(s).

i bought the tank with no key - and it was locked
turmed out the lock was pretty mangled as someone had tried to open it with a screwdriver.
they fixed the lock and cut a key for $10!!!!
