Yeah, its kind of a pity knowing that they surely engineer these 'races' to be exciting at the end. I watched the 'swiss alps' episode (Ferrari I think) with a bunch of girls one evening (no innuendo please) worrying about them missing out on watching 'Pop Idol' and found that they all REALLY enjoyed the 'race' the top gear-dudes were having. Clearly a bit contrived really.

In Aussie mag Motorcycle news was an article on a 600+hp $500,000 Porsche with Gemballa mods (fastest road going Porsche in Oz). Versus a stock R1 with sticky rubber.
Equivalent driver/rider (racers), Bike kicked its ass at the track to the tune of 1.5+ seconds a lap.
Previously the mag had a comparison of a Porsche versus a GSXR1000 K5 and the Porsches optional ceramic brake option cost more than the bike!!!
Bikes have trouble matching open wheeler race cars with big downforce but are more than capable of beating the rest.

ok, if Postie can't, or won't (cue chicken sound), I wouldn't mind finding out myself. Who's got a cage worth..? Postie's car is a 2ltr turbo FWD coupé. May be a subby or evo then..? 4wd could help..
Must admit, his car vs my bike could be a little unfair actually..

nah, this isn't going to be an advertised thing persay. It'll be very hush for obvious reasons, but wouldn't mind a couple of people helping out with cam stuff.. Anyway, that's just detail at the moment.. Just thought it'd be a good challenge to see what the deal was.
And I know a lot of riders here and not-here, that would do the loop in a blink. If you could find a car driver the same way, then great, but doubtful. So just to keep it more level, I hardly know the loop, and Postie doesn't, so it's hardly an advantage.. Just thought it'd be fun

A shame you're up north and I'm down south, I feel my Mirage would be a far more interesting comparison since it cost half of what your bike does :-)

lol.. it's not a price vs machine test.. Besides, Postie paid a third for the car of what I paid for the bike.. Is it worth asking more questions on it? engine, mods etc?

ITS HARD TO CONVINCE SOME PEOPLE ON THIS SITE THAT AVERAGE BIKES ARE WAY FASTER THAN FAST CARS CAUSE FOR MOST PEOPLE ON THIS SITE ITS THEIR RIDING THAT LETS THE BIKE DOWN

that's why it'd be good to get an average driver, and an average rider, and do a stretch. Then even swap machines (no, no one is riding my bike)

    Damon Hill marginally the fastest

"Damon Hill beat everyone, but they disaloud his time"

    1st: Damon Hill - 1m 46.3

    2nd: Mark Webber - 1m 47.52 (very wet)
They put him in a seperate category.

    Normal drivers

    1st: Jimmy Carr - 1m 46.9
Now Jimmy Webb is a stand-up comedian, so to be 0.6 behind is no laughing matter.
    Great program, anyway.

The F1 cars will always win. Braking is a huge advantage, having 4 wheels as is the grip from the amount of rubber in contact with the ground. As mentioned, the aerodynamics of wings are important too, even though the bike may have a higher power to weight ratio

I know that a even a supercar can't overtake where a bike can, and in summer traffic that's all it takes.
Even Schumacher himself would be stuffed if he was stuck behind 15 cars following a campervan.
One consistant criticism of Lamborghini's, Ferrari's et all is that they are too wide for the average country road.
    Speed doesn't kill people.
    Stupidity kills people.

SOME PEOPLE JUST CANT RIDE , EVERYONE I KNOW WHO CAN RIDE FAST CAN DRIVE FAST NOT EVERYONE WHO CAN DRIVE FAST CAN RIDE FAST .
WHY IS IT THAT RIDERS LIKE GARDNER AND SLIGHT BECOME CAR RACERS AFTER RIDING BIKES ? COULD IT BE THAT CARS ARE MORE TOLERANT OF FUCK UPS AND POOR CONTROL

VERY POOR FORM HOW TOP GEAR PUT A CBR600 AGAINST THE ATOM , THATS THE BOTTOM OF THE RANGE SPORTS BIKE AGAINST A HAND BUILT LOW VOLUME SPORTS CAR, THEY SHOULDA USED A CRESCENT GSXR1000 OR THE NEW YAMAHA R1 LIMITED EDITION , THAT CAR WOULDA BEEN BEAT
