When a 1980 Z750E came-up recently nostalgia got the better of me (I had one way back), so I bought it.
It's generally in good condition both cosmetically and mechanically apart from some horrible noises that emanate from the starter clutch on start-up. Its a well known issue in high mileage examples of this engine and can be fixed. But access is through the sump and involves quite a bit of disassembly - so it won't be getting done until the starter quits completely.
I'm not intending on returning it to original - rather, the goal is "tastefully" modified UJM. To this end I have installed a 4 into 1 exhaust made by Custom Chambers - its beautiful and works/sounds great! The only other significant appearance issue I have with it is the seat/tail area. The seat has been cut-down which doesn't suit my eye, so I plan to do a reupholster/recover. However, I prefer the rear/ducktail look of many of the Kawasakis of the era to the boxy rear of the Z750E. My research suggests that a ducktail and seat from a Z650 might fit relatively easily onto my bike, but I'm not sure. To this end I am looking to get in touch with an owner of a z650 (B or C model I think) with the intention of viewing/comparing the seat/tail area of his/her bike with mine.
If anyone can help me with this please PM me.
Thanks.
