Agree with pretty much all of the above...

main reason is just 'coz it's farkin fun to hear the symphony of that throbbing, breathing, pumped hunk of metal between your legs churning at 13,500rpm when exiting a corner with the peg just leaving the ground for its next low altitude, high speed flight that lasts until the next corner...

especially fun when some farm kids are standing by and thinking how this hail of noise which accompanies the candy coated, alloy and titanium stallion going past them is just the absolute shit! Pity their Dad's seldom agree.

I do it because I can, because I want to, and because I don't like being told what to do.

Sometimes it's adrenalin (even more so when those Holden Bringitons try and keep up). Sometimes I just do. I have a belief that just cos some twat in an office thinks 100k is the maximum safe speed I can travel at doesn't mean they're right.

The thrill, sheer fun, perhaps to get to the other side.

Not to mention that the limit seems awfully slow and there is no fun to be had either...

Just that thrill of coming down from a rate of knots for a tight corner, down through the gears, blipping revs or watching them jump between gears, lean it round the corner then crank the throttle back on again, quickly shifting through the gears (ZZRs take a while, so I can just crank it on without care)

Just doing that puts you waaay above the limit

if god didn't want us to speed, he would have given us more realistic speed limits and less powerful vehicles......

I have a major issue with risk taking.
Was I speeding ?,an what are YOU doing out here anyway ?
Find a twisty road an push the bike til I'm so close to the limit I should come off, speeding just comes as a result of that.
Five miles off the west coast in a fourteen foot tinne, you gott'a gun it to stay alive, speed just happens as a result of that.
You want fast, try it in a boat!!!
Stuck up a cliff face 10 kms into Te Urewera an if you fall off, your probably speeding a bit before you land.
    It just happens!!!

    "What compels you to speed?"

    Thanks in advance!!
Am I missing something here, what does speeding have to do with defensive riding, or is that capital D an indication of something i'm not aware of.

pretty much agree with what everyone else has said...keeping with the flow of traffic, adrenalin, getting to a gas station before she cuts out on me, and also going to add...how do i get used to something if i dont do it?? i ride in wind, rain whatever so i can get used to it faster, rather being a pussy and waiting for cage dweller to give me a ride home.

and like someone else said...bikes need speed to balance. was following a mistral up one of the main town roads the other day. clear road for blocks, and they were just crawling. going maybe 30k..cars backed up for miles behind me, and me struggling to not drop my feet, lol. was so glad when they slammed on the breaks, let their indicater blink once and then pull into a park

    Two reasons:
    (1) to overtake person driving too slowly in front of me who does not want to pull over and give way despite holding up traffic behind him.
    (2) going with the traffic flow. I feel unsafe driving slower than other people because it makes changing lanes (when needed) becomes too dangerous.

    Thank's for asking
