soft gear change/rev increase no power

Hi

On my way home last night I found that the changing into gear seemed to feel very loose, I would hear a click as I changed as soon as I started letting the clutch out to wear I would normally feel it start to bite I didn't feel much of anything happen so I gave it a little gas and it had changed but as soon as I started to give it a bit more it was like the bike was in neatral.

with my limited knowledge I am assuming it would be either the clutch pads or something else in that area, I am going to be taking it in to the bike shop to get a WOF so I would just like to seee if anyone had any ideas so I can give a better idea to the mechanic.

the bikes a 250cc suzuki gsx

Before doing that take it for another ride, I suspect you may have just mucked up a change.Happens to the best of us
other wise again before ya do -check that all the external nuts and bolts down on the gearchange are tight, Its possible that the gearchange lock bolt came loose and you arent actually changing gears at all
sounds silly but its possible.
otherwise the cluch adjuster could have come loose -down on thje end of the clutch cable -I think its a bolt and locknut on one of those.
sounds strange to me that the bike would suddenly loose clutch -normally its a gradual process

What Frosty said. I have done the same thing and it almost feels like the clutch is knackered but its usually a simple thing. Always check the simple things first before taking drastic steps.

That sounds like it could be it, I did notice it seemed to slacken up by the handle

I had to come to work this morning on it so I left a bit earlier to have a bit of a test and it seemed to go into gear fine but when I gave it a bit more gas it rev but there was no power

I have to get a wof anyway so I will get the mech to have a look

I found the problem, the clutch cable up by the handle bars had split rubber in the hose. the metal pipe with the clutch cable running through it had made the rubber covering split because there was a small gap of about 10mm before the thicker rubber began,

I secured it with some tape and went for a quick blat up the road and there was no problems. when I got back and took the tape off and pulled in the clutch it buckled right on the split and stopped the cable from being able to slide back into position, so I have done a temp bracing job with some metal pipe till I take it to the mech next week.

and lucky me the cable was fine no split fibers =)
