Getting the PINK off my bike

someone pointed out to me yesterday how long the pink was on my bike.
"What pink?" I exclaimed with outrage,
and yeah, it IS pink, I never looked at it that way before. (I dont mind the purple so much)

I could try to remove the stickers but I have a feeling there is some kind of top-coat over them and removing them might stuff up the paint job.
maybe I could use some painters tape and spray paint the pink black.

lol.. I thought you were comfotable with your sexuality, so never mentioned anything..
could always do a 'ghost rider' thing, go to Repco and buy 3 cans of mat-black and go nuts..
Else there's a good chance those stickers have a clear coat over the top, which means the stickers were put on, then the top layer. To take the stickers off would be to take off the top layer of the laquer. Could always laquer back, but you'll never get it looking right, unless you pay for it to be done..

I guess it boils down to 3 questions - How long are you keeping the bike? How much money have you got to burn? Does the pink really annoy you that much, given your answer to the first 2 questions?

Go see an automotive spray shop. Sounds like your paint and decals have been clearcoated so prbably best to leave alone if it doesn't bother you too much. Muchos time & $ to do anything else.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I do like being nice and visable, I dislike ther pink. mildly at best.
I expect I am going to do a hack job like everything else I do.

can you spray over laquer with enamel spray paint? I might get something that goes with purple (I suppose purble and black is pretty visable)

    color suggestions?

edit: proberly keeping the bike as long as it lasts. I have a hunch I am not going to sell an old bike to buy a new one, means Ill still have transport when one breaks. I dont think I could sell it for much after its been through 2 noob riders. I only paid $2000 for it

could always buy that 'chameleon' paint that Repco to.. they sell it in the 3 can packs, don't think it's that expensive. Then your bike will be almost every colour!
Don't know if it'd go straight onto the laquer tho, you might have to get some sandpaper to roughen it up a bit so the paint will stick..
don't mind giving you a hand too if you want.. be a bit of fun

are you thinking cover over the stickers or just do the whole fairing. there isnt that much of it.

I dont like doin it much as its semi illegal as I 'ave to go at least 80 to get from the bridge to the taka off-ramp and im still on a learners, I havent been stopped yet but the $400 fine and 25 demerit points is a bit of a bummer.

Go at 'rush' hour, or thereabouts, and you'd be lucky to get up to 60!
Liked your flamethrower pic - good work!

depends what kind of finish you want.. if you don't really care, then a quick scuff with paper then go over it. 50/50 chance the outline of the stickers won't show..
If you want a semi-pro 'ok' job, then you go a little more nutty with the sand paper, just takes longer, but less chance anything will show thru (real slim chance), so up to you.

Most cops will understand if you want to go a little over 70 to stop yer ass being creamed on the freeway. Might give you a slap on the wrist, just go with the flow.. Not turning this into another cop thread tho.

The 3 pack can thing has primer, the paint and a laquer. I'm guessin you'll need no more than 3 packs, might get away with 2.. Also, if you want any more stickers back on it, like RGV or 'I'm a Krusty Deamon' or whatever, then get them before you start, then put them on before the laquer goes on..

I have a reasonable electric sander or for more hardcore I just bought an angle grinder from repco although I guess thats a bit too beefy.

Im happy to go stickerless I dont feel the urge to plaster my bike with crud. except maybe 'keep on truckin' im not sure anyone knows what that means.
Or maybe a KB logo sticker. but Im buying the hoodie, thats enough for now.

If I / we are sanding the crap out of it. then ideally I might as well remove the stickers anyway?

do you mean 3 packs of the 3 pack packs?
Or 1 packet of three types of paint (primer, the paint and a laquer)

Um is it a biggy that only the tank is metal and the rest feels like cheap plastic? Ive tried removing them before without much luck, quite hard to get the screws off.

Rofl I just noticed. with the poll above, the 'its only a color' option is a pink bar HAHA

each pack has 3 cans - primer, the paint and a laquer. It should say on the pack how much area it'll cover. I'm thinking to do a decent job, 2 packs might be a stretch, but 3 would be too much.. So that bit will be your call.

An angle grinder might be a tad overkill, but hey, could be wrong. It's your bike! Hell, while we're at it, stick some neons on and stuff..
With Spanks permission, could even 'ghost' effect the KB logo on the farings.. or 'ghost' flames on the side or anything else you can think of.. Might only be a 150, doesn't mean you can't have fun doin it! Just don't bin it afterwards!

We can cover my garage in newspaper and just go nuts.. won't be a problem
