To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead.
To an extent...
However if that tyre is a 180/70/17 and you replace it with the same of another brand with the same loading and it doesnt slide all over the place im pretty happy to say okay that tyre is garbage.
My rear Shinko hit a slick bit of tarmac mid corner in the wet went sideways for a couple of metres, gripped back up really well and i wasnt exactly crusing....
I hate to say it but i'm actually really impressed with the Shinko thus far. it will be very interesting to see how it wears and how the grip is with a new front on... will take it to the limits and see what it will do.

You can read all the advice on here and select a tyre and you can still kiss the tarmac on it. Some guys are talking track time, short summer squires, I am talking extremes of wet and cold, in my experience. When I am riding the last thing I need to worry about is tyres, pads, engine oil, kissing the tarmac, just select a tyre and get out and enjoy the ride, overthink it and the enjoyment is gone. If there is one tyre that hasn't taken anyone down can they name it.
I think you and i have very different riding styles.
I'm not out to putter an enjoy the scenery. i want to push limits, i want to improve i want to be faster i want to challenge myself at every bend.
I'm probably a lunatic of some kind. hell my main goal is to eventually run at the IOM before i'm 40.
There is clearly something wrong with me.
I do however require a front tyre that will do the job, i dont need the judgement on my riding i don't need the lecture from anybody, (not aimed at you specifically) what i need is the best product for the task.
Frankly if you're riding along and not thinking about your tyre temp.... did i just go through some mud... water... etc all this has to be taken into account. it isnt overly important for touring.... however when you're pushing limits not thinking about such things would be lethal... and frankly its the only reason i'm still around...
I'll put it down to the fact i'm an adrenalin junkie, i want to push it i want to scare myself. i only want to be faster and faster and gain more skill every time i ride. that is my objective.
Ps. i've been drinking a little hence the vent but it's just the truth. Cue the grammar nazi's

The difference between you and I is that you are claiming the way you ride, whereas I am not not. I only do long rides, If I leave Picton at 7am and intend to have my tent pitched by 5pm at the Brass Monkey, I am not saying what is happening in between those events. I am not a fair weather rider.
Also I come from Enduro bikes, full knob lies on wet roads makes for good skills.
Under the tyres section there are plenty of threads about all of these tyres mentioned. I am more than happy with my selection, so much so I am continuing with them. You are yet to make the decision and the outcome is going to take longer.
Why are you concentrating on the front tyre, I would work out what you are going to replace the shinko with, and that would help drive your decision for the front, after all it is normally the rear that is going to take you down first.
What a read. Some good information from some and a total wankfest from MrMarko
You havnt changed Skidmark apart from you have refined your bullshit.I initially diagnosed you as a pathological liar but
I was obviously wrong as pathological liars tend to be able to keep their story straight and expand on it .
So as you have just got this bike and have done 5km before you changed the rear tyre then I can only assume you have never taken a 65km suggested corner at 160km plus.
As you have had an 8 year break from bikes i suggest your superior belief in your stupid antics and abilities in your last namesake still exist.
And then with one hand you type you want to compete at IOM before your 40.
I dont think its the alcohol. Whether or not your taking your prescribed medication as required that will not get you to the IOM as a competitor. Are you actually totally bereft of the brain cells required to understand what is required.
Good tyres are small change to you but still buy budget tyres. All good
What steps have you made to achieve your dream .So you have a competition license, a fully prepared race bike and proven your worth and now seeking sponsors to help realize your dream.
Apart from the fact there has been excellent input into this thread most of your contributions should go to jokes and humour or PD Just saying. You really havnt changed have you Skiddy
It's also worth remembering that conditions in NZ can be challenging for tyres, especially our poorly maintained coarse chip seal. Contrast that with roads in Europe, where most tyres are developed, and it's surprising that they work as well as they do.
Perhaps some of us would be better off with adventure tyres ...![]()

Whoa GSXR guy! Skidmark returning as Mr Marko! You could be right! Anyway, I loved my S20 s on my GSXR 600. 5000kms of fast road riding and totally toast. After that I had an old set of std Pilot Powers (single Compound) which were great, but completely different feeling to the Bridgestones give the PPs steeper profile and softer sidewalks. 5000kms and rear was toast. Have a set of S21s on now. Initial feelings is they are quite different from the S20s. I have an s21 fr and s20 rear on my DRZ sm. Just on so can't comment. In the past std Pilot powers were perfect for this bike. The rounder profile of the Bridgestones means slower tip in. Had a Pp3 on the back of my FZ1, did not like. The S20 Evos that replaced it where streets ahead IMHO.
Good point, OK, to refine my comments about the S20 Evo's:
Touring in rain - very slight loss of grip, still very confident in the wet
Touring in dry high summer, very hot over the Takaka Hill - absolutely no issues, amazing grip
Track day (only 1 so far) - had it scraping the pegs on up to half throttle, not confident enough yet to bank and nail it, no slip or squirm
Track in wet - don't know yet, haven't tried it
Road slip hazards like manhole covers, gravel, diesel etc - still slippy but the tyres handle it pretty well
Long days - I took Route 52 back after the track day so that should count - still perfect behaviour.
Loaded up bike - can't really comment, 185 kg bike, one up, banana bag and tank bag, that's as heavy as it's ever been. No change in tyre behaviour.
They're amazing all-rounders for a relatively lightweight bike.
My story straight? okay i'll have to expand this out as you clearly arnt very bright.
I rode 5km.... to the bike store....to change the rear tyre....So i could ride the motorcycle more... as the previous rear was too dangerous.
It wasnt an 8 year riding break at all, that was a lie on my first post on the new account to "fly in under the radar", i just actually have a life away from forum people who say to come to their car yard for peaceful resolution then swing punches at me then ban my account. There was never any silly or idiotic shit when i used to ride. I did the ATNR ride over 50 times, never a single crash from me while everybody else ate a ditch. Every person who was going oh you'll die you'll die you'll be crippled.... is either themselves, dead or a cripple. I'm doing just fine.
I havn't been prescribed any medication since i was 18 which was some ritalin for ADD as a kid... if you really must know?
I havn't made any steps towards it yet beyond improving my riding quietly away from you lot for 6 years. Not a single bin by the way
Good tyres are small change to me yet i still buy budget tyres? ahhhhh i see.... cheap tyre = bad tyre and ...expensive tyre must mean good tyre! do you also own a club to smack woman over the head and drag them back to your cave?
It's a dream, everybody has to have dreams.
So if you're done trying to call me out, with all the wrong facts because you seem to have problems reading a simple statement about changing out a rear tyre ... can you fuck off now?

[QUOTE=MrMarko;1131003733 I did the ATNR ride over 50 times, never a single crash[/QUOTE]
are there really people in our country on bikes who actually think that's an acheivement, 50 rides without a crash, fuck that's an eye opener.
