My wife and I are hoping to go to the island for the classic TT 2017. Would appreciate any info or tips from anyone who has been there before.
    Thanks in advance

It's on our bucket list too and we are running out of time so thought we should do it. It will be the trip of a lifetime for us.

always good to grab a bike and do a lap or two just to say you've ridden it, don't ride after lunch, early arvo, lager louts are most frequent then, when riding around a lot is no speed limit, adjust you brain to allow for traffic the other way at possibly 150mph too.
also work out a few spots to watch the races, i wanted somewhere famous that i'd always recognise, somewhere fucking fast, got stuck at the braking point on bray hill to quarter bridge for a whole senior tt, great to watch the full tank, half tank differences etc, if you plan it right you can watch from two to three different points in some races although the classic races aren't as long as the real tt.
drink plenty of piss and try to play stinky finger with at least one chick over their too.

I.O.M TT 1969. Me on my Tiger 100 at Quarter Bridge. All that time ago and the memories are like it was yesterday. If you don't do it, you'll always regret it!

...all the suggestions in the world don't mean shit when you get there...some people love it up on the Mountain, but it's a real prick of a place to be if the weather comes in, and it can, quickly...standing around some of the really famous spots can mean seeing more of other peoples necks and backs if you don't know exactly where and when you should get there...I got stuck where Spyda mentioned and had to listen to the bikes come down Bray Hill before they zipped over Quarter Bridge, not the most exciting place to be but did help Jon Ekorold pull his bike over the wall when he lost it there...I got stuck at Governors Bridge when trying to get up to Signpost or Hillberry, but managed to watch Dennis Ireland come round there first to win his Senior TT...all good memories and often more lost than planned...just being there is No#1...

a lot of the popular places now are commercial tied up, ie corparate stands for tours, paying public. i went to quarterbridge for one race and it was pretty full, given that they were decent length races, and the reality is they're a procession or bikes rather than tooth and nail battles people at the front pretty soon had had their fill and let someone else through, also they were often having a brown powerade and needed a refill or a twinkle, something else to bear in mind.

Went a couple of times, once on a bus trip which was ok ( and cheap) and once on my recently restored 59 Triumph T110.
Camped that year, did a loop of the Island and watched from creg na baa as you can get a pint of Bushy Bitter.
Bikes go past so fast ended up with lots of track and grassy bank pics.
Years I was there Joey Dunlop won and then there were the amazing Norton Rotaries. Spotted a Britten running thru the pits.
    Have fun :-)

    IOM Classic

Hi was there this year, what do you want to know, Quarter bridge is not a bad place to watch, I like the bungalow. If you want to rent a vehicle on the island either do it now for next year or rent one in England and take it over on the ferry. Forget roaming on your phone, buy a sim card when you get there 5 quid and lasted me 8 days no problem. TT radio is available online (stream it with your smartphone) buy bottled beers at Shopright (Shop Shite) they have quite a good selection and don't think anything is going to be cheap. My wife is Manx so have heaps of rellies on the island. Camping is an option but if you want a bed get in early, think there's a network of people who will put you up for a fee, try IOM tourist board. Oh and if you have a choice go on the Sea-cat from Liverpool. Stuart
Question: Why do cars have wing mirrors and Indicators? Answer: Fuctifino!
