Paikok hill road - 70 KPH

It is a neat road, but I’m scared of it. The start part is fairly straight roads, but from the horsey place just gets tighter. + you often see people walking horses before there.

& Bicycles, it is a popular bicycle road, heaven knows why. The rule is that you must be able to stop within visible distance on a two laned road. I’ve almost hit bicycles going up there trying to keep up (I'm slow on the road, -vivid imagination) & it freaked me.

Really if you are going up there (from wgtn side & some of those LH corners are tight & totally blind with the bank) & you met a broken down car parked -stopped just there. . . how many people could really stop? How many would pile into it?

This is one trap I'd have no problem with.

They do have a "failing to keep left trap" My workmate got done in his cage in Paikok hill failing to keep left. The cop was sitting and waiting for the morning commuters to cut across the center line. My workmate was pissed off but I could hardly hide my pleasure. I think he got a $300 fine for it.

The simple answer is to ride within the limits of both yourself and the road conditions.

Every piece of road has it's own set of hazards, Paikok is narrow and cars tend to cross the centre line (the vid that I posted a while back proved this). The Takas is well known for diesel, wainui coast road has some challenging (off camber) corners.

Superb. That's only the second I've heard of, the other was on Takaka Hill. It was a biker who was caught that told me. (Whoops)
Maybe this will catch on and I'll stop winding up the Police (a little)

Well... Feck ! I'm in bed with Pneumonia and I didn't even get to say goodbye to the hill.. Sniffle.

So... What Tranzit are now saying is that there is NO SAFE road out of Wellington (you know, the CAPITAL city) but it's not going to do anything about it for 20 years. Excuse me ?

AKL gets more lanes tacked on to it's motorway for capacity... Surely safety comes before capacity ? You may say it's for the greater good and that hours will be saved for lots of people... This goes out the window when someone dies on the shitty roads around here.

Serously... As far as I'm concerned, screw AKL... Save some lives first.

so why can the people in power actually start trying to make an effort on focusing on driver skill then just speed?? everyone here understands quite clearly that speed dosent kill its the driver/rider who kills... a shirt i saw once comes to mind... "guns don't kill people, I DO!!"

but i suppose that there is more money in ridiculous fines than actually teaching the general public on defencive driving.

but sadly yet another good road is buggered by idiots and ney sayers. RIP p hill

As a sidetrack - I've been done for this years ago too.

Cutting corner with good visibility. In this case though the old farts coming the other way (like way way back) freaked, stopped dead and took my plate number. The fact that I would have had to deliberately swerve back into their lane and drive for some distance straight ahead before slamming into them seemed to be lost on the cops when they weighed up the "sensible old people" vs "young guy with history, driving a fast noisy car" debate. And we know how that debate ends.

Now back to the real debate - who the hell cares about Paekak speed limit??

Or.... Just buy a less modern or smaller bike = Fun restored, costs reduced!
