WARNING: Speed cam operating on Everglade Drive in Manukau today

Just got a heads-up from the wife.

Seems Inland Revenue have stationed a red van with camera on Everglade Drive in Manukau today. He's been there before and tends to lurk around for a few days.

... sorry, did I say inland revenue... silly me, I meant the Police of course

I would think like me,you live in that area so would know Everglade is treated like a racetrack,not to mention the primary school......as far as i am concerned they should remove the wheels from the van and make it permanent,anyone getting pinged along there deserves it,if it slows down the idiots more power to them (imho)

If that's the case, wouldn't it warrant a real cop, giving out tickets with demerits on the spot, so that people will know exactly why they're getting pinged?

I would rather see real cops do real duties instead of babysitting people as they seem to have to do.....as far as Everglade Drive,whatever the method,what part would need to be explained as far as.. I was speeding in a built up area that has a high population density,is used as a traffic bypass and has a school?....which has little bearing on a speed camera out in the sticks on a straight road (Revenue collection at its best) but have no objection to them when they might reduce speeding as in the area in point...

so your complaining about cops not being there in person to catch speeders and tell them off, but then you'll also be complaining when they send taxi's to pick up drunks, so which is it?

No I don't condone speeding in a built up area... in the same way I don't condone the indiscriminate use of civilian-manned speed cameras as a substitute for proper policing and if you really think the cam's exist for any other reason than to fill the consolidated fund...well... I've got some great swamp land in Florida for sale.

The difference is between getting a ticket in the post some weeks later, relating to an offence you wouldn't even remember. As against being pulled over by a cop, with all the anxiety that creates, at the scene of the 'crime' and being told in no uncertain terms why you're getting a ticket.
I know which has the longer lasting effect.

Real cops do patrol that stretch of road pretty regularly.

When it was part of my area I was up there quite often - my best day was 28 tickets. And still they don't learn. Think it is one of the highest ticket produces for the speed camera as well, in Manukau anyway. Have been to a few nasty accidents on that road and has been pointed out, there is a primary school, shops and kindergarten.

I live one road off everglade and people have been trying to get a speed bump on the road for ages, as until the traffic lights went up (why on earth the traffic lights changed anything I don't know) people use to do about 80 coming down the hill.

I dont have any problem with a bit of excessive speed at the right place in the right time. Punching through the limit a bit in the countryside where you are only likely to fuck yourself, a wire fence or some wildlife is one thing.

Anyone who does speed in a built up area on car or bike is a fuckwit. Anyone who speeds anywhere near a school or where there are children deserves much more than our justice system is likely to deliver them. Just imagine your 150+kg bike slamming into that 30-50kg child, even at 50kph its devistating, then imagine its your child, or if you dont have one your own your sisters/brothers/cousins . . . Sure they arent supposed to be on the road but fuck if they are only 5,6,7 . ..9,10 chasing a ball from backyard cricket etc. A few minutes at reduced speed wont KILL you, make it up at the next set of lights.

On the KB rides I've been on we go a bit fast in places for sure, go to jail speeds even, but only in cow/sheep country, but Im proud to say most people (95%+) slow down in built up area's. More people live in the world than just you, think of them and maybe they will think of you!
