I reckon it was very carefully edited to ensure that those boyracers came across like complete and utter flipping morons. Okay, sure, they may well have been, but I reckon the balancing comments they may have made could have been edited out for the extremism that is promoted for good TV.
The point I wished they could have got across is that the cops don't necessarily report the accurate information to comms, and they don't necessarily pull out when the say they do (or are told to). And if someone feeds me the bullshit that they don't do that anymore, that things have changed, I've got a couple of stories I wouldn't share publicly that give me reason to doubt it.
But really when you've got cretins driving like idiots, cops will chase. If they don't chase, then what's the friggin point in having cops? Chases are dangerous. No way to avoid that. Even attempting to stop someone is dangerous, because if they bolt, they don't back off just cos the cop turned his lights off and slowed down. The whole point of a pursuit is not to have fun, it's to get away with whatever you were doing wrong in the first place without any consequences. Unfortunately some people get too enthusiastic and end up crashing, which is usually a really bad consequence - much worse than the fines/disq you would have had to start with.
If I get chased, I don't EVER button off until I'm a LONG way down the road, or home. Which means a "pursuit" that officially lasts for all of 10 seconds (the time it takes a car to turn around and realise that they can't see the bike anymore) will have me going flat tack for probably 5 minutes until I'm long gone. So I off it 4.5 mins after the cop tried to pull me over and I'm doing 260k splitting cars. I don't ordinarily do 260k splitting cars. But if it's that or instant loss of license, I'll take the chances thank you. But even though I off it as a direct result of the cop trying to stop me, it's not their fault that I off it - it's mine.
These little cretins need to take responsiblity. You do the crime, and sooner or later you have to pay your dues. Don't blame the pigs. I blame the cops for plenty of things - perjury and for continuing very dangerous pursuits (contrary to what "procedure" says), but if I off it doing a runner, the responsibility lies with me... unless the cops take me out...
