I'll borrow a little philosophy here.
If you own the problem, you own the solution.
You're right, when someone pulls out in front of you it's their fault. But fault means bugger all when you're lying in the back of an ambulance.
Owning the solution means doing what you can to avoid other folks bad driving. If you keep falling victim to other folks errors, changing your style to a defensive one can fix a lot of that.
Funny how I find that very few crises arise in my riding these days. 40 thousand km this year. Can't recall a single close call, despite seeing a lot of atrocious driving. Quite a bit if risk taking from riders too.
Just my experience since I took ownership of my riding. Continuing to foist blame onto others gives you no control of the situation.

So it appears that the Auckland roading commander is on a 'thing' for lane splitting.
Got pulled by bike cop at Central Junction. Discussion with cop.....fine and demerits.
Was being a bit aggressive so all my fault.
Be careful out there.
not at all.
the POLICy Enforcement are there to do just that: enforce policy. they are drones and should act as such, irregardless of your attitude.
which brings to mind the quote:
personally, i've never had a cop stop me to give me blowies or cash or drugs, so there's a precedent for me not wanting to have anything to do with the cunts.don't confuse my personality with my attitude. my personality is all mine, my attitude depends on you
I rode past a fine looking blonde policewoman yesterday through the spaghetti carpark. Was lane splitting with my normal finesse and good manners on my ultra-quiet Hayabusa (that's all a joke in case you missed it). Slowed right down. Blew her a kiss. She just laughed and waggled her finger at me.
What does a man have to do to get a fine looking policewoman to stop and ask for his number. I'm just a boy. Standing in front of a girl. Asking her to handcuff me.
Its diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; its life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.
