    Brassmonkey

    Hi,

I'm thinking of attending the brass monkey this year on my KDX, but have a few questions which I hope people can answer.

    1. For the offroad route should I carry extra fuel? I have about 100 - 150km range on the open road, would this be enough?

    2. Would it pay to get some DOT nobblies for the offroad section? I currently have shinko 705's.

    3. What is the frequency of petrol stations along the way from Akaroa to where the Brass monkey is held?

check that the off road routes aren't closed that weekend, i think the authorities got sick of pulling people out when they got in the shit so shut a few routes.

If you're meaning Dansey's pass as the off-road route its about 60km thereabouts and nothing drastic either some road bikes tackle it
Fuel inside every 50kms apart from the above.
Did it nearly 30yrs ago on a 2valve XT250 and had a friggin ball
Was a hoot on the sunday morning in a minus 13deg frost watching most of the roadbikes struggling to start of getting pushed to the jumper van, I just loaded up & 2 kicks and was on my way

No fuel at Duntroon, closed a few years ago. Last fuel on north side of Dansey's is Kurow or Glen Avey. On the south side Ranfurly is the next fuel.

So I might get away with not bringing some fuel, I shall figure out how to carry a 5L container though just in case, that would get me about 70km.
