Hugely off camber every second corner, which is mildly dangerous for non-residents unaware of it.

You could well imagine with your tin foil hat on that the main reason this story is there is to provide additional support from TPTB to the AA story the other week about bikes needing forward facing number plates.

Again, that was the in-house Police magazine, they aren't talking to anybody but themselves. They certainly are not backing up the AA story, it was just supposed to be a feel good work story. Very few of the people for whom it was intended would be questioning the amount of effort that was expended for such a minimal result.

It turns out that there is an in-house police magazine. That means at least some of them must be able to read. They must be the smart ones reading the articles to the less fortunate amongst them.

I think it is too much of a coincidence that the AA came out with their seemingly random press release about motorbikes and speed cameras and the need for frontal identification with no evidence presented in this story whatsoever at about the same time as Ten One was going to press. Clearly they went off on one because of this dude from Wainouiomata.

And that is what is really odd. I thought every male aged between 22 and 55 in Wainouiomata drove a white panel van with blacked out windows?

Not sure how I feel about this story. Should it have been shared publicly? Probably not, for civilians don't get shop talk, most of the time.

Good job they nabbed the speeder. Then again, shame the outcome was poor.

Maybe if one can keep an old big bike under control on the Wainui hill, at silly speeds no less, then the rider is doing something right. As well as wrong.

He was doing this before 5.00AM. Even in the greater Wellington area, traffic shouldn't be too bad at that hour? The road in the camera photo with the article doesn't look particularly challenging, dangerous, or busy. Four lanes ffs. (The implied expletives included only in the interests of alliteration. )

It seems he was sometimes doing 130kph. OK it was an 80kph, area but there would be a lot of KBers for whom 130 would be just a normal cruising speed. People with small bikes may differ, but he had a ZX10, he'd need to be doing nearly 130 just to take the weight of his wrists.

In one respect he was lucky. If he was actually caught at 130kph in an 80kph area that'd be 50kph over the limit. instant walking territory. So he must have been busted doing rather less? Again, a lot of effort for not much.

I think the outcome was great because the unsung hero of that is the lawyer.

130 to 180 is a respectable motorway on ramp merge speed. All our motorways are autobahns - no speed limit.

The Wainui hill is indeed four lanes, parts of it nice and straight, parts of it rather dodgy in the sense of varying radius turns, off camber shit and all. Plenty of prangs on that bit of road. Opinions differ on how the boys in blue dealt with it. I for one have no issue with it.
