I will, when i get one.
Just have to find one to test ride first, or even look at, without driving for bloody 200km. nobody has these things in stock round here. (waikato)
just go look at a DRZ400E and then think, if the engine was less responsive and a bit slower and boring, i'd be riding the SM.
seriously such a good price still -- http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...1218118803.htm
buy that an spend $1000 on some motard rims/tires and have the best of both worlds - about $80 off ebay for a SM speed-o-drive thingy for front wheel, easy to swap on and off the cable when you swap wheel sets.... still work out the same price as the SM on its own but more fun bike
just say'n ^_^
i did consider it.... there is also one in Paeroa (dealer) which i think is the same price, with ORC included.
having owned all 3 types, I disagree about the suspension, all you need to make it more road friendly is stiffer springs which are what? 80usd? and 20 mins work? even with sloppy trail suspension, had no problems doing corners on my E with full aggressive knobblies both on and off road (top speed of a DRZ is so low not like you need superbike suspension to do 140kph tops)
anyway, good luck! they're a great bike if not a tad weird in the ergonomics for taller riders and very high seat height for short riders
2008 - owned from new.
Mods:
Athena big bore kit
FCR39MX carb
Full Yoshi exhaust system
Hot Cams cams
Clarke long range tank
Seat lowered and widened for comfort
Set of SM Pro dirt wheels for adventure rides
Acerbis enduro headlight
Zeta handguards
Done 36,000km - runs like new.
Is it totally necessary to have a cush drive hub if you were to throw a motard setup on a DRZ400?
I Spent a lot of time thinking about what I'd like. I have no requirement for it being anything other than a fun bike - which it is in spades. I have a black B&B bash plate and Zeta Handguards (fitted after photos). Next is the emissions removal followed by the 3 x 3 mod and a rejet. I'll get to tail at some point and fix the ugly tail light and indicators - the Zeta guards have indicators inbuilt - so we are sweet for the front. Main buying motives - for the type of bike it has great maintenance intervals, super fun to ride (always more fun to ride a slow bike fast) and has a go anywhere attitude. Perfect for riding all over Banks penisular (mainly the back roads). Yay
I bought a stock standard 2006 DRZ400SM yesterday fellas. 12000k on the clock. First upgrade will be a GPR slip-on.
Is there anyone in the Wellington region who specializes in the DRZ mods? Like a member who could help a dude out?
The 3x3 airbox mod is shown well on Utube. Jetting the carb-jet sizes are easily found on Thumpertalk or Supermotojunkie. Manual CCT is easy. Not confident? Let a good bike shop do the jetting and CCT.
Team is the DRZ400E exhaust systems compatible with the DRZ400SM?
Edit: Apparently it is possible you just have to remove the right passenger peg and use one of those bolt holes to mount the pipe.
