Auckland - help from the group

Hi all,

Recently, the viffer took a bit of a fall whilst parked and cracked a lot of the LHS fairings. 'No problem' I thought, thats why I have insurance. So off the viffer went to a well known honda motorcycle trader and repairer. Four weeks later and there has been no movement due to the well known honda motorcycle trader and repairer not providing a quote to the insurance company to move things along.
After a couple of phone calls to said insurance company, they are saying it may be time to move it to another repairer if the well known honda motorcycle trader and repairer cannot provide a quote soon.
My question to the group is who are the best fairing repairers and painters in auckland?
The viffer has a custom paint job, (feel free to have a look in the gallery) so requires a company that can match paints etc.

Here's a thought... could you do the work yourself?

Have the bike assessed by the insurance company, buy new fairings and have them painted. If no other damage done then might be a solution...

Yes - insurance companies tend to not like to do that.


has an assessor seen the bike? have you hassled the bike shop about this? Strikes me as very poor customer service ..

last time I made a claim the bike shop took less than a week to get the quote to the insurers .. the insurance assessor said "do the work" so the shop stated before they sent the quote.

I must have been lucky. Had the 650 knocked off its side stand and damaged the fairings on the left hand side. Assessor inspected bike, only damage was to fairings, and said if I got the fairings from the UK and other parts and fitted them and got some bits painted then that would be fine. Gave an estimate of costs for purchase and shipping. Once done send the bills through for re-imbursement...

Assessor has seen the bike but can't move the claim on until the bike shop provides a quote.
I am leaving it to the insurance company to hassle the bike shop as I will still go back there for servicing etc.
I guess I could try to buy new panels but they are not that abundant unless I want to get one piece race fairings from airtech. This may be the problem the bike shop may be having as well

Have you checked with the bike shop to confirm that is the problem?

Have a look at David Silver in the UK and see what they have and the cost.

You wrote that the fairings are custom painted?

That could present a problem for the dealer because they can't just call up and order the fairing. There are specialised motorcycle painters (there's one on the north shore of Auckland) who deal with this stuff, might pay to chat to your assessor and ask him about getting the bike assessed via the specialists. The painter will need to be insurance approved.

I've found Honda dealers to be particularly miserable and useless to deal with over the years.

I took parts for painting to him and my insurance was happy to pay for his work. Very happy with his work, admittedly only a single colour, but saw a bike he'd just finished which was a work-of-art... stunning!

Insurance company is unlikely to harass the bike shop.
And if the shop can't ba arsed getting the quote done, what's going to happen when they have to actually do the work.
Sounds like time for a new mechanic!

The Honda shop I used was brilliant, and much to my surprise, so was the insurance company. If you can't even get a quote, imagine how much trouble it's going to be to get the job done. Have you got a trailer?

You can have the behicle written off if they are taking more than two weeks to initiate repairs. Had similar issue with my first M35 Stagea, hard for the repairer to get parts prices as import only model. Chassis floor was twisted slightly in two directions only but my broker friend gave thema poke and i got paid out.
She said something along the lines of beinbg deprived of the vehicles use for an excessive time is same as unrepairable etc.
Ring insurer and tell them the delay is unacceptable and that your next stop is insurance ombudsman and fair go....
I'd say the bike shop knows they wont get the work as it will be write off due to costs and cant be bothered doing the quote for bugger all compensation.....

BTW if your in any kind of city it should be 3-4 days max to get a quote and decision on to repair or not for a car, shouldn't be much different for bike. That's why they pretty much only give you a rental car fort two weeks under most policies....

Yep sounds like the op needs to get on the phone and tear someone a new one. Better still take a trip to the insurance office and get right in someones face. Those cunts will take the piss if you show any weakness.
