I thought Aprilia and Moto Guzzi were both part of the Piaggio group.

All denied by parties including Ducati of course.

I have often wondered why one of the big Japanese companies don't purchase a company like this on the side.

Sounds odd but if you think of a fairly conservative company like Honda they could experiment on the wild side with a company like Ducati at the more exotic end and if successful introduce it via Honda as globally acceptable sanitized 'Honda' version .....

    Make money both ways.

    Just a thought.

Plus both use red paint a lot!
the issue being that VW have made Ducati profitable and will be looking for a return on the substantial capital invested. I think I recall somewhere they expected the sale price for Ducati to be over 1.6BILLION Euros

The little KTMs are also being built in a new facility quite close to us in the Philippines. Locally built 390 Dukes are predicted to be ₱40,000 (NZ$1170) cheaper than imports from India.
