    Damn that's smooth!

Must be nice having linear power when you're getting out of a corner, no big lumps in the delivery causing the wheels to break loose.

To keep in on topic of bikes here's an onboard of a E-Bike at Nur:

Not taking anything away from that lap by the EV (as it is very impressive) but it was done on slicks from what has been reported.

Oh really? That's a bit shit. Surely it should have been done on semi slicks if they're going for a road legal record, which they probably would still manage with the speed of that thing.

Well, I'm yet to drive or ride an EV - and still to be convinced of their practicality in NZ too.

But as I've said elsewhere, if it's built as a race vehicle, I'm interested.

Still waiting for the report of the first thief who's burned trying to hot wire one....

Passing thru Cali waiting for a plane - got to test ride a Zero.

I am keen to have a electric bike as my next one, but so far, the range (for the affordable consumer bikes) is still lacking.

Also, and more importantly, (a very long story cut short) I could not find out if it can be VIN'd and allowed on NZ roads...

The US dealer was happy to supply parts and advice but not a risk worth taking that it could not be road-legal.

I'm hoping Harley's Live Wire bike makes it here soon.

There was a car show in Wellies not too long ago, I bumped into a bloke on a Zero who was running around on it quite happily. Plate, tags etc - it was all good.

Nice, wonder what it cost him all up to get in the country and registered?

Yes, I think this VINing would be difficult at present. We built an Electric car (several actually) and the safety requirements were quite steep, even finding someone to do it and sign off. Batteries of several hundred volts are perceived to be quite a risk. What happens when you crash etc. Can someone get you out of the car safely? With a bike this isn't so bad. I'm sure once they are adopted overseas we will follow there lead.

    Cheers

A few years ago CycleTreads [Barry's Point Rd] had at least one, possibly more, electric bike in the showroom with a price tag on it. Can't remember the details, but it did appear to be registered...

Imagine inventing a petroleum vehicle for the first time in 2017.

"So this liquid. How many joules does it contain per litre?!?!! And you'll want to carry more than 1litre I suppose. Keep it in a simple tin container near the back. Right.

Soo. . It's not very easy to ignite is it?. . ."

Yeah can't see it being much dumber than sitting on top of 17litres of flammable material lol.

There's a fair few electric scooters on the market already so I'd imagine they'll need to follow on from what ever standards they are required to meet.

I definitely see the future of cars being electric, wont take all that long either.

Motorcycles - yeah, maybe. Not so soon though, we would need some major advances in battery technology to be able to give a motorcycle a decent range. It is just so hard to get decent batteries on a smaller vehicle.
Having said that - if I had tons of money I could see myself buying a Zero Motorcycles DSR 13kWh bike for short trips around the Waikato, but longer trips would be on a petrol powered bike for the next several years at least.

But every video I can find of acceleration tests online back up what the magazines have quoted. One video from an owner states that he felt the car was fast and was genuinely surprised when he measured a 0-60mph time of 10s.

    So what gives?
Consumer level punch of acceleration right of the line makes it feel surprisingly fast. While manual and auto cars can be launched about as quick, it takes a little bit of skill, and you know its coming. EVs you just stomp or twist the go bit and it goes.

Performance hybrids are where the tech's at now, pure electrics will be where it ends up in the future.
