90% of all Harleys built are still on the road... The other 10% made it back home...
Ducati... Makeing riders into mechaincs since 1964...
Some bikes have them fitted as standard, so yes they're useful, no doubt about it. For one they help minimize the effect of a tank slapper. If you've ever had a big tank slapper you'll understand...
have used them. Yes, found them useful.
next question will give you far more diverse answers, and that is, should you use a linear or rotary unit, and which brand . . .
Ive had good experiences with Ohlins.
have used them since 04, love them, Ohlins was the best but they no longer make the under the bar verison, think you can get the Scotts verison still which Ohlins make,
Surprised not more feedback on this. Esp from the track guys.
Tank slappers can happen to anyone even at low speed. In slippery conditions can amplify the problem
Interested in finding more about what people's experiences are.
Didn't know there were rotary and linear dampers.

Two trips to outback Oz on the DR - first one, no steering damper and so fighting the corrugations but firm going out in the middle of the road.
Second trip, Rally Moto damper fitted and much more comfortable riding the loose but smoother going along the edge.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.
Umm, so in the off road section so I assume you mean for dirt riding. I have a motosportz under bar damper. It kinda makes the front feel a bit dead and takes a little time to get used to. But I like it. It might make things a little easier on rocks etc.
Was it worth the not inconsiderable money? Hmm... Not really sure.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
Is this more of a sports related product, rather than a touring type one.
Looking at replies, obviously there are different types for various uses.
more research required.

This is the off-road section so we are probably not discussing preventing post wheelie tank slappers on your GSXR.
Therefore we are discussing devices that try to inhibit sudden steering deflections in terrain which tends to promote them. This can indeed be a sports related product but the adventure touring market also laps them up, especially where, sand, bulldust and to some degree boulders are a common surface.
For that market, although not exclusively, they tend to be rotary devices which are rider adjustable on the move. Call in when you are passing and I'll show you a good example.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.
figured as much - was trying to see if other non offroad types might have put some info in here, with all the KB wisdom , surely there is more info.
the adventure touring market - something i have always wanted to try. I have almost all of the gear, just no suitable bike or time to try it out.
another time.
As usual I have started at the other end of the universe. long touring with large breaks between.
