It's official - Wellington bikers are ignored...

WCC officially ignores the Capital's bikers - council says it won't back the "inherently dangerous" mode of transport.

    Yeah just reading that...

''The council's city networks chief transport advisor Steve Spence confirmed the sub-section of motorists is often deliberately left out of consultations.''

Does this Spence moron believe that everyone that works in Wellington lives in Wellington?
I can't see riding a deadly peadly from Upper Hutt, Wairarapa, Kapiti Coast etc a "viable transport choice" & public transport is not only worse than bikes for space, environment & finances but also shit as a form of transport

Now we know. Deliberately left out of consutations

    From Wellington Council.

The council's city networks chief transport advisor Steve Spence confirmed the sub-section of motorists is often deliberately left out of consultations

    AND

"The position taken both at local and national level has been that motorcycling can't realistically be encouraged as a mode of transport because it is inherently dangerous when compared with, for example, travel by car or public transport."

Nobody seriously expects anything intelligent to emanate from the Wellington Council, but even so that is depressing.

I posted a reply on Stuff hoping to gain glory and likes with my wit and knowledge. I guess the mod turned off an hour before they knocked off.

Any hoo. Succinctly- it's Cassinaish logic. A circular perspective v's an open perspective. Our representatives should be better informed and progressive.

    Not seeing that here.

By that logic a push bike must be almost a suicidal mode of transport

No surprise there, WCC failing to function as usual.

"But Spence said the council's focus was on getting the public, motorcyclists included, to consider safer, more environmentally friendly transport options."

It is no part of council's business to be attempting to impede their ratepayers' decisions on their mode of transport. It's their job to provide infrastructure to accommodate whatever vehicle their clients choose to use. Maybe Anne Tolley and Simon Bridges need send WCC a wee missive requiring them to pull their fucking heads in and do their job.

"Because of pressure on central city parking, they may want to look also at ride sharing, using public transport or other options which do not require a parking space in the central city."

And he may want to look at alternative means of employment. Seriously, who votes for these fuckwits? Based on this stunning turn of logic motorcycles should expect about 5 times the funding per vehicle than cars.

I know it's the GWRC who are pulling the poles on the environmentally friendly trolleybuses, but I'm sure the WCC could have put up a really good argument for keeping them. If the new hybrid buses are not ready to take over from a tried and true method of propulsion, then Wellington will get some used diesel buses from Auckland. Go figure that one!

I doubt if Simon Bridges would know what a "wee missive" is... They need Judith Collins who could just give them 'that look'!

Perhaps a bit of civil disobedience over parking is required? There's bound to be somewhere that bikes could be parked that would disrupt the traffic flow in the city?

As for voting for him, suspect he's a council officer and has an iron clad employment contract. There seems to be a number of these type of people in council positions.

Just wondering what ''environmentally friendly transport options'' could possibly be? hot air balloon perhaps? more direct from A-B without the traffic woes. A longboard would also fit nicely into that category, though not being able to road register one could rule it out.

I see Fatt Max has expressed his view ''One such motorcyclist, Mark Hill, believed motorbikes were a "practical and viable alternative to a car in all weathers" and should be championed by the council.''

It's uderstandable that Wellingtonians would be upset by the idiots they elected to their council, but two threads on the subject would seem one too many?

Mate, if you'd seen the sheer number of such idiots involved you'd have to consider the number of threads complaining about their various transgressions as positively restrained. Massively understated, even.

I wonder, and I have no idea how this might have entered my head, if the quantity of such idiots entailed is in any way related to the likelihood of said idiots fulfilling some sort of productive role out in the real world. Y'know, the sort where you supposedly get paid roughly according to your ability to produce something people are willing to pay you for.

I mean, why so many bankrupts, disaffected academics, environmental activists forest & bird and league of wimin types? Is it possible, I wonder, if everyone else is too busy actually working for a crust?

It really does sound like a Council breach of the Worksafe act, doesn't it?

    Risk identified: yes.
Actions taken to mitigate risk: none.
